Good successor to 'Justice League of America'
I liked JLA- it's run was cancelled after a meandering tie-in with Forever Evil. This is the successor book and a fun read in the tradition of Justice League stories past.

Mehhhh
I picked this up to follow Lemire's Animal Man, hoping it would pick up some of the dropped threads from that incredible series. The first volume (haven't read the second yet) does not at all. It feels very generic, like Lemire was phoning it in to pay the bills. The art for the first few issues is decent, but they had some fill ins on the last issue and the change in style is pretty jarring. Women looking stretched out like pulled taffy, an absolutely ripped Animal Man. I was excited to read this and it really let me down.

A Quirkier League
This volume collects issues 0-5 of Justice League United.A pretty good start to a really fun series. This series kicks off with the New 52 debut of Adam Strange, going to a signing convention to ask for the help of celebrity superheroes, Animal Man and Stargirl. During a dig in Moosonee Canada he comes across some freaky alien stuff and knows he is out of his league. Animal Man and Stargirl show up and find an alien conspiracy at work and Stargirl calls in a few former teammates of the recently disbanded Justice League of America and they are off to space to help put a stop to a terrible plot forged from tensions between multiple galactic empires! Plus back in good old Moosonee a teen of the native Cree people, Miiyahbin, fights a force more close to home as she learns of her destiny.Jeff Lemire really fires on all cylinders here as he gets to play with his own Justice League. Yes, he worked on Justice League Dark, but that just felt like DC moving him around and he made it clear in interviews this is the League he wanted to play with and helped create. He really establishes that he is a master of team books and making them feel like families as if you have read any of his work the interactions of family are one of his biggest themes. He masters everyone that is on the team and even has great moments between members that feel true to how the characters have been established. The rivalry between Animal Man and Green Arrow is hilarious and great. They even have a bonding moment that is nicely placed and well earned. Lemire even builds on the unique friendship that was forged out of the Justice League of America Forever Evil tie-in issues between Martian Manhunter and Stargirl. It's weird but really cool. The addition of Miiyahbin is really nice too. Her story is really disconnected for the first five issues but comes around in the final chapter. She is a really neat character and I hope she can be fleshed out more in the upcoming volume as it's great to see newer heroes added, especially of diversity as this team is pretty Caucasian heavy. The main story itself is great as well and really adds cool new takes on Adam Strange's weird story and breaths new life into villains I had forgot even existed. Lemire is really good at making the characters drive the story as well really making the reader get invested in their adventure. Martian Manhunter is the leader (Yay! The Manhnter is my fav!) and makes all the tough calls and it's great to see him in the spotlight again (Cannot wait for his solo series this summer!). Yeah, at times it is really random how some of the members just show up, but it's a superhero book and Lemire gives as acceptable a reasons as can be for some of the randomness of how some characters just pop up. Hawkman's appearance use in this series is just friggin great! If Johns' Justice League series is the big bombastic A list team, then Lemire's is the quirky adventurous B listers. Both are loads of fun though. The art works so much for this series. Mike McKone has this really cool funky yet fluid style that really captures the kinda offbeat nature of the series so well. Of course having colorist Marcelo Maiolo just adds wonderfully with his very diverse coloring style. I loved the bile greens of the alien experimenting chamber. And of course his now trademark bold white and red/oranges in certain panels to add emphasis to moments of intensity is well used here. He did it well in I, Vampire and Green Arrow but got carried away with it in Green Lantern Corps but gets back to using that impact style coloring to good effect here.Great series! One which I cannot wait for the next edition to come out as the Legion of Superheroes join the already big cast. Sadly, Mike McKone does not pencil that arc and even sadder is that Jeff Lemire is seemingly done after that. But I will enjoy what is next and see if DC puts an acceptable creative team on this series going forward or I will just call it quits and enjoy the two Lemire helmed volumes.

Of all the Graphic Novels I've read this year - this is one of them
Of all of the comics and graphic novels I've ever read – this is one of them. Not bad, not by any stretch – but not memorable, either.Byth never really caught my interest as far as a world-(no, universe)-class super-villain, and this issue neither enhanced nor detracted from that opinion of him. Some Candian Cree spiritual monster called the Whitago – meh. Lobo … hero or villain, he never really grabbed my interest. Still hasn't. OK, I was intrigued by the re-invention of Adam Strange and Alannah, but that doesn't take up enough of the book to grab me.Perhaps I was disappointed by the title of “Justice League Canada”, only to find out that only one of the main characters was Canadian! (OK, two – one hero, one villain.) After all, that's why I bought this particular graphic novel over the several other options available to me.Not worth abandoning, but if I had it to do over again, I would have opted for another bookRATING: 3 stars. Neither great nor terrible.

Not hardcover
This clearly is not hardcover, which is what I ordered. Amateur hour.

Really seemed more like a bunch of odd couple teenagers bantering at one ...
I had high hopes for this series as i'm a Canadian dc fan. My biggest beef going in was that every hero team has to be called Justice League... my next biggest gripe was the dialogue and story. Jeff Lemire doesnt seem to do very well team dynamics. Really seemed more like a bunch of odd couple teenagers bantering at one another. This idea had potential but was poorly executed. I would have liked to see this published under a different name, different author and newer Canadian heroes maybe centered around one familiar face. This was Justice League wannabe team #4? I think of the new 52. No originality. I was originally going to rate this at 2 stars but while typing this rant, I realized how bad this volume was and that i was being too generous.
