Edit 01/03/2024:I've had this blotter about 1 1/2 years so I thought I'd update my review. I've used it hard, but it's essentially still like new. As long as I remember that it's not some sort of cutting board or workbench platform, I have no doubt that it will outlive me. I did have to put some two-sided tape under it to keep it in place. For writing (especially with fountain pens!), I couldn't desire a better surface. All in all, this is a well-crafted item and I would recommend it to anyone who's willing to pay more for quality.Yes, this blotter is ungodly expensive; there is no way I'd ever divulge how much I paid for it to my wife. But I previously had a real leather blotter for 20 years, and it looked like new right up until I stupidly ruined it with modeling glue. It was the best writing surface I ever encountered.I just wanted this blotter to be as good as my old one, so I was ecstatic to find that it was far better! It's three times as thick (it was shipped flat) and the edge finish is superb. Also, the color and leather smoothness was exactly as described.So, if you have a great desk and are willing to pay for the ultimate writing surface, this blotter is for you. If quality isn't important, there are plenty of blotters made with PU (fake) leather that cost a fraction of the price. You'll get what you pay for.

We bought a black one of these a few years ago to protect an antique desk and it has held up extremely well. We recently bought an additional desk and ordered a brown one for it. It is the same quality as our first one.They arrive very nicely boxed.It may seem expensive but when we consider the cost of refinishing a desk, we think these are well worth the money.

It is large, black, and expensive, but that about all I can say that’s positive.I have numerous desk pads of different colors I use for top-down products review videos, all are real leather. I thought this one would be special because of the price. But no. I have serious doubts that it is leather or even PU leather. It feels like a thin plastic stretched over excessively thick cardboard backing. It is cold to the touch, unlike leather. It marks easily from even the keyboard moving around, but the marks don’t buff out like leather. It melts with even a cup of tea, unlike leather. I could swear it’s PVC plastic, like a raincoat or poncho. The backing is way too thick (about a 1/4 inch) which lets dirt get caught under its curled up edges.I suspect they are taking advantage of you not being able to touch it before you buy it, slapping a high price on it to get you to think it *must* be high-quality, and hoping it’s awkward and bulky enough that you won’t return it. In my case, since I had others, I didn't get around to opening it until after the return window closed.

Very heavy and good looking but I think the leather is only on the very surface, not fully leather inside.

I have a custom desk that I had made for my law office. Bought this to dress that up - but the shape of the top of my desk just didn't work with the sizes offered. So why 5 stars??? This thing is a stunner. I've rarely seen such high quality. It broke my heart to have to confess that it just didn't fit right on my desk... If there was a way I could have made it work, I would have - what a looker!!
