Keep Out!: Build Your Own Backyard Clubhouse: A Step-by-Step Guide Paperback – March 26, 2013

I'm building the basic clubhouse with my 11 year old son this week and this book is excellent. The plans and the step-by-step layout of the chapters with illustrations are excellent and thorough. Every day, I ask my son to read through the next chapter/steps and we commence with the building. I have built a few things in my day, but nothing end-to-end like this, so it's helpful for both of us, really.What I like about the clubhouse design is that it is based on standard lumber sizes: 4'x8' plywood, 6' 2x4's, 8' 4x4s, for example. This minimizes the amount cutting required and maximizes the use of materials.Highly recommend it.

I currently have TWO which will be given as gifts! One for DH for Fathers Day and one for my Godson (a 13year old) for his May birthday! This was exactly what I was looking for as a gift for a few handy builders in my life. I look forward to seeing all the Clubhouses built with the help of this fun book.PS.. When I was first introduced to the book and discussing it with some of my local friends we were of course enamored by the clubhouse for our kids! But we were also selfishly thinking about ourselves….. “I could make one just for my Spinning Studio!”, Someone else said, ”…. Gardening”, ”….. Dyeing”, "... Yoga", ”….. Photography”, ”….. Books”, etc….. You get the idea.

After searching the internet extensively for information on building a clubhouse, I finally stumbled across this amazing book! The author not onlyshares his knowledge of building clubhouses and other shelters from his own experience, but offers very detailed information about the tools and materials needed, along with easy to follow building instructions. Another aspect of this book that I truly value is the author's encouragement and enthusiasm, which largely helped to propel me in getting started with the project.

Super cute! I love how it lays it all out! Super cute illustrations. I bought a used copy and it’s in awesome condition.I’ll update once we dig in over the summer!

Such a fun book! I love looking at the pictures and dreaming of the backyard shanty I'll build with my kids someday. The author does a great job illustrating the plans and capturing the magic of a backyard fort.

I love this book! I bought it for myself after checking it out from the library for my son. The illustrations are both playful and extremely helpful at the same time and gave me all the guidance I needed to build a shed in our backyard. Lee Mothes has our whole family excited about building small, quirky places of our own (good thing we have a decent sized yard). We loved that he included his own clubhouse pictures and stories, too - they make the book very special and personal.

Entertaining and very helpful for a novice builder.
