Amazing book, great for kids starting Grade 1.
The media could not be loaded. I was waiting to write a review until summer vacation is over. My target was to finish this book by the end of summer.I bought this books for my 6 years old girl. We did one story each day along with related exercises. Best thing about this book is, it will help so much in reading, and your child will be able to do exercies independently after sometime. Book starts with small stories and then it goes to long stories. At the start I was helping my child to read story and then help her in doing exercises. But after we did half of the book, I made her read story all by herself and underline words that she cant read, then we reread the story and I help her read those underline words. I always made her read all questions and answers from the exercises and at the last Unit she was able to read all exercises fluently, complete all exercises by herself. We didn't do extra reading too much because this book was a good reading for her.I would suggest to buy these books during summer or winter breaks so that u have target to finish before school starts.

Too easy, at least in the beginning.
So, I am a 6th grader writing this on my moms phone. Yes, I got permission. Anyways my mom bought this for my brother who is nearly done with first grade. The workbook was adorable and the font was nice. The problems were fine. Fine for a kid who’d just started first grade. It was a workbook full of stories and questions. Again, I said that it was fine for a kid just starting first grade. For kids who were pretty good at english, I don’t recommend. The only reason why I think that is because it’s way too easy. Coming from a middle schooler may seem doubtful, but what if I told you my brother agreed as well. The question would be something like true or false. The questions however would ask stuff like, “trees fly” is it true or false? Now before you say something, let me just say that we only just finished the near middle of the workbook. Who knows? It might get harder. I don’t really know, but this is just my families first impression.

Great series for homeschool.
Love this series. We homeschool and I’ve used the reading, spelling, writing and language arts books for second and third grade so far with my daughter. She loves them and I have been very pleased with them as well. I already had a phonics curriculum for my son who is in first grade, but decided to get this book to supplement and he really likes it. I feel like the reading level is right on for where he is as a first grader. It does dive right into reading short stories, so if your child is just beginning to read, it may not be the best fit immediately, but for us it is perfect. If I didn’t already have something else I was using, I’m sure I’d use the spelling, language arts and writing books too.

Unit 1 leaves much to be desired
I have to agree with the other customers who gave this book 1-2 stars. The content in the first unit is really poor. I don’t understand why they would select such poor examples, stories, and questions. I understand starting out with easier content and then increasing the complexity. But some of the questions are just flat our ridiculous like “does a fish live on a couch?”. The first unit is full of questions like this. We decided to skip through it and move on to the 2nd unit. We purchased all the other subjects for 1st grade and the Math workbook also starts out real simple at first. We do like all the other workbooks from this publisher.

My favorite reading comprehension books
I’ve been homeschooling my kiddos and have tried numerous reading curriculums and reading comprehension workbooks and these are my favorites. The stories are true stories so the kids are learning something.

easy to understand and read short stories for my first ...
These are cute, easy to understand and read short stories for my first grader. We homeschool and I purchased this as supplemental help with reading and comprehension. A friend of mine with the same age boy, though, said the stories were a little too wordy for her son to read. So I guess it depends on your kiddo’s reading level. I would probably place it at end of first grade/second grade reading level.
