## Description

VASGOR Set of 2 Auger Drill Bit for Planting (1.6x16, 3.5x16) - Easy Planter Garden Auger - Bulb & Bedding Plant Augers - Posthole Digger for 3/8” Hex Drive Drill - desertcart.com

Review: Well made tool that did the job - If you're using this in soft soil and burying bulbs, use this with your battery-powered drill-driver and you'll have no problems. I had a tougher job than that, so the rest of this review is how I did it. Until we purchased this auger, I had just held our small front-tined tiller as vertically as possible and let it churn away until the hole was deep enough for the plant's root ball. This worked, but was hard work holding the tiller and the resulting hole was much wider than we really needed. We have very stony ground and needed to make 12 quart-sized holes for new plantings on a fairly steep slope. Using the tiller was out of the question, so we bought the auger and used a 1/2" drill to power it. The drill is an old school 574 rpm geared-down monster that has two handles on it and it can break your arm if it catches you right. It was the perfect tool combination. The auger went right into the rocky soil with no problems. Drilling was only blocked if a rock was bigger than the diameter of the auger, and if not exactly centered, the auger would work its way around and then push the rock out of the hole. Because I used such a powerful drill, if the auger struck soft soil it changed from auger to screw, and would stop pushing out earth and begin burrowing into it. I found that there was a technique that worked for me: First, use short bursts of power, with the auger perpendicular to the slope and holding back on its advancing in. Second, once the auger was 3-4" in, I straightened the angle to vertical and moved the auger in a sideways circular motion without going deeper to enlarge the hole's diameter. Now I'd run the drill full speed and sort of "wave" it around as I slowly lowered the auger into the correctly sized hole. If I went down too fast, the auger would screw itself into the ground and if it bound up the drill would kick back, with painful results. Overall, this is a well made, useful and tough tool that made a hard job much easier.
Review: Where has this Auger been all my life! - I saw this product on a infomercial once and was a little skeptical. I absolutely love to see the early and late spring daffodil’s, hyacinths and mucaris but unfortunately because I have such a bad back and neck I was never able to plant them. I decided to take a chance and order this auger from desertcart and WOW! Finally, a product that actually does exactly what it claims to do! I love it!! Why someone didn’t invent one of these sooner I’ll never now. I love it so much I also ordered a 12” auger from desertcart. I have planted over 150 bulbs during the last two weekends and have about 100 more to plant. I can’t wait till spring to see all my beautiful bulbs in bloom. Thank goodness all 3 of these bulbs are deer and critter resistant also. This auger is so easy to use, just put it in your drill, drill a hole anywhere from an inch to several inches deep in just a couple seconds, drop your flower bulb in the hole, cover it with dirt and then sit back and enjoy the beautiful flowers next spring. All pros and absolutely zero negatives!
