This is my geeky engineer prepper pick for an EDC multi-tool
This has been my EDC multi-tool for almost a year, and it's still like new. I haven't been gentle and it's held up well. I used the needle nose pliers last night to pry open the sliding glass window in the back window of my old pickup truck. Given the direction and magnitude of the torque applied to the plier hinge, this was really abuse rather than use, but good tools like this are overbuilt and use quality materials and heat treating, so they can take some occasional abuse. I love the assortment of tools on board. Gerber seemed to know how I'd use this multi-tool. I carry a full sized knife that's easier to access, so I almost never use the knife on the Gerber Multi-Plier, but a multi-tool needs a knife and this is a good blade that's well designed. It's small enough to be discrete, large enough to be genuinely useful, and the smooth and serrated areas seem ideal for a multitude of different uses. The replaceable jig saw blade is genius! I love that I can carry lightweight, inexpensive, and readily available blades optimized for cutting wood, soft metals and harder metals. The abrasive grit blade that is supplied is the best of all worlds. It may not be optimal for the materials I just mentioned, but it will cut almost ANYTHING, including glass or ceramic tile. I also love the way the Phillips screwdriver bit accepts the included adapter that can use any 1/4" hex drive bit. That opens this tool up to using all sorts of tool bits. You can carry an assortment of security bits and McGyver your way into all sorts of tamper proof electronics. Or you can get a 1/4" square drive adapter and carry a selection of small sockets. The small set of bits that ships with the Pro Scout is a good selection for everyday needs and tucks next to the multi-tool in my tactical pants' small cell phone pocket that wasn't used since I switched to a ginormous tablet phone. I'm usually a SOG guy, but Gerber nailed this one.

A great multi tool, high quality with a lifetime warranty
I always wear this tool and find it easy to use with all the right tools for most jobs . The only thing that eventually wears out is the belt pouch which the company replaces for free. Highly recommend this tool.

Best multi-tool around, could use some minor changes.
Gerber has made some of the better multi-tools for a long time now, and they've always outdone their top competition, leatherman, imho. The pliers are far more useful than Leatherman's thanks to the locking design, the tool is a bit lighter than say Leatherman's Wave, and I've found that Gerber makes some of the most easily opened tools around. I can open everything on this tool one-handed, whereas with the Wave, which is advertised to be largely one-handed, I sometimes need to use another tool to get access to some of the smaller screwdrivers and such. The additional bits add only a little thickness to the case, and I find I use them as much as any of the other tools. It's a little too bulky for my pocket when I carry both the extra bits and the tool, but the tool on its own is plenty small enough. On the downside the knife, though already under 3", is half-serrated, thus giving less than 1.5" of cutting surface. Gerber, being a subsidiary of Fiskar, always has great scissors, but since I bought my first Gerber tool some of the other tools have been downgraded. The file, though sturdier than most, is not as nice as it used to be, and doesn't have a very fine grit, so don't expect to use it on your nails. The Remgrit saw is great, but it's hard to find replacement blades, and most standard hacksaw blades require a little surgery to fit the tool.

Good tool, this is one you want if....
OK, so I bought this to replace the military issue equivalent that is blacked out. This one is all stainless assembled in the USA of US components. The bits are made in China, but let's face it, the bit use will be minimal. If I need them that bad I'll be getting real tools. At any rate the pouch that comes with it DOES have a spot to put the bits in with the tool itself. It is a tight fit but after daily use, it'll loosen up. Put the bits in first, then then the tool. This tool is the flick to use type that can be opened with one hand and is what I was used to. Best design, however at some point the mechanism will fail, hence why I am replacing the old one. This doesn't stop me from buying another because they are well worth it. I wear it everyday on my hip and use it everyday. The only hit I have about the tool is the wire cutter. The one on the old one lasted a few times before it became useless, this one is a different design, but I can tell it probably won't last long, we will see and I'll update the review later. If you are looking for an any to use tool that is solid for everyday use, this is your tool. I will be sending the old one in for warranty repair in the meantime.

Not the same quality that I'm used to with Gerber, cheaply made.
Not bad but nowhere near the quality of my Gerber Diesel multitool. Gerber has definitely lowered their quality. We'll see how long it lasts. My Diesel is 10+ years old and only replacing because I broke the screwdriver tip.

Came apart on first use.
On first use, black retaining clip came off, button and spring ejected as a result. Of course I was out in the field so they're long gone. Very disappointed in this lapse in Gerber quality. This is the third one of this model I have owned. No problems with other two after years of regular use. Update: The one I ordered in July which failed on day one was exchanged via Amazon's return policy. The replacement just fell apart. So the last one failed after just 4 months. Gerber needs to fix this quality control problem! I cannot currently recommend buying this.

if you're looking for a multi-tool this is it. its portable with a small socket set (completely compatible with all Hex Sets) has a inside pocket, with the tool, to hold the small socket set with (included in the belt loop holster) and comes with everything that us older folks have come to love with Gerber Products.
