highly recommend
This is a class text but wow this is an awesome book. I wish all my class text are this good. Cresswell is the type of academic writer where you say i wish i could attend his lecture. I recommend this book to anyone in geography. It is readable and does not drone on as some writers do. Chapter 2 is earlie geo and how often do you read any geo befor 1800s it is great. Chapter 3 modern geo, i like this book and would recommend it.

Traces Geographic Intellectual Trajectories
Provides a satisfying overview of the intellectual/philosophical influences on Geographic Thought from Ancient Greek to Medieval Period and to Modern Era. Embedded within this overview lies implicit trajectories through time related to the four traditions in Geography.

Pretty good introductory textbook
One of the most readable Geography textbooks I’ve been required to read for class. Cresswell is informative, interesting, and even sometimes funny. As with any textbook some theories are covered a bit better than others, but he does a good job explaining how he decided what to include and not include in the book.

Required text book for geography course
this book is a useful tool for my required class as part of my degree but its a hard read. The text in this book is tough to chew and understand. The author is british so his style of writing is also european. Great insight of material, very knowledge about theories and philosophies of geography.

Fantastic!
Tim Cresswell wrote a fantastic introduction to geography suitable for pros and also for intereseted non-geographers.He not only gives a thorough - and critical - historical overview of the various schools of thought in geography, but shows how thrilling it can be to look at different approaches on how to make sense of the world. His examples are vivid and to the point and his writing is not only informative, but also amusing. Geography is so beautiful, especially when presented like this.Highly recommendable!

Most useful book I owed over the 3 years of doing my human geography degree. Useful in regards to human geography theorists e.g humanist, positivist, Marxists, feminists etc. Decent chapters on each of the theory’s and explains the basics very well. Came in handy for many an essay.
