Slouch Witch (The Lazy Girl's Guide To Magic Book 1)

Pick-me-up
Pure fun. Its description doesn't do it justice (makes it sound kinda dodgy, actually). Its a murder mystery in a fantasy world and you can kinda guess whodunnit pretty easily but that doesn't detract from the pleasure of watching our protagonists meander there. The worldbuilding is thin to say the least but if you can overlook that for charming characters...then, this is your book.Ivy is a delight - I love that she's constantly trying to think of the easiest way to do everything. Adeptus Winter is a charming, tough foil for Ivy but the showstopper is Brutus, Ivy's familiar. She created a spell to help him talk when she was 16 but Brutus only has a vocabulary of 20 words which he mainly uses to communicate that he wants food ("FOOOOD") and that Ivy is a bitch....or so Ivy thinks. The ending really cracked me up. Of course, it'd have been really effective if it had been delayed till book 3's pivotal Brutus moment but I'm quite content with this moment as well. I'm glad I don't own a cat because my expectations for a pet cat are now sky high. Perfect read for slow Sundays.

Loved the series🤩
This is one sassy and delightful book I've read till now.The series very amusing and interesting. The chemistry between Ivy and Winter is perfectly described.I won't have it any other way.FYI I liked that the writer use lots of old English vocabularies.

Real fun book to read - loved it
This was such an amazing fun book. The heroine was funny and smart. The language was a joy to read and the storyline was cool with a fun twist at the end. I will be picking up the sequel as this book made me laugh out loud at times and yet stuck to logic beautifully. Way to to :)

Delightfully fun
Already a massive fan of Helen Harper, I snapped this up and was prepared to enjoy. However it took me by surprise exactly how much I really loved this book. Quirky, funny, entertaining and full of delightful characters, I could barely put it down. Ivy is introduced as lazy and possibly a bit self serving, however after teaming up with Adeptus Exemptus Winter, her true colours come out, that of an intelligent, witty, ingenious and brave woman, all without realising it herself. The world building is all wonderfully intimate and cosy, something we would all like to imagine, a nice little order of witches battling for magic and the greater good. The darker side (there's always a darker side) however is one of selfishness, greed and power at the top, and Ivy and Winter work their way though the investigation after literally being thrown together. Best fun ever! I can't wait for the next instalment, thankfully not too long wait.

Outstanding
This has to be one of the best books I've read this year, Meet Ivy she's lazy likes to stay in bed, avoid work and cleaning cooking, and pretty much everything else, oh and she's a witch, wrongly expelled when her boyfriend lied about his cheating and blamed her instead. Fast forward eight year's now working as a taxi driver and while doing a favor for a friend Ivy is the accidental recipient of a binding spell. Now magically bonded to an investigative witch they must recover a stolen artifact missing grimoires and solve a murder, chaos ensues. Filled with magic snark and laugh out loud humor with plot twists you won't see coming an outrageous magical romp, highly recommend a must read, Baz

Terrific - funny, zany, sharp
What a terrific read. It has humour, emotion and a plot that will keep you guessing until the end. She got kicked out of the Order for cheating, something she would never do. Now she drives a cab and tries to avoid her overzealous neighbour. When her neighbour asks her to look after her cat for a few days she never expected the consequences. Bound to an investigator (in error, they thought she was her neighbour) she has to help him investigate cases as they arise. Throw in thefts, assault, a grumpy cat (who treats her as his slave), murder and an incompetent administration for a read that is great, enthralling and fun. The bickering between our hero and heroine is a joy and their characters leap of the page. Brutus the cat is wonderful and the closing scene just relays how he manipulates everything around him for his own comfort.

so annoying to read a so called "set in the UK" ...
Finally an author who can speak "English"....such a relief to have a book set in England where there's Pavements instead of Sidewalks and we have Autumn here, not Fall......so annoying to read a so called "set in the UK" book that jars with every paragraph.....thankfully this book does none of that...it's fun, witty and fast paced all the way through. The plot is intriguing without bogging you down, the interaction between Ivy and Rafe leaves you eagerly hoping for more.....it's another great book from Helen.... a very talented author with a genius gift for sassy realistic dialogue and fantastic storylines...keep up the good work and I'll keep buying your brilliant books.....Buy this, you'll love it!.....I'm gnashing my teeth that I'll have to wait 2 days for the release of the next book, it's that good!!

She’s no slouch when it comes to magic!
Well Ivy might be a witch but she’s no slouch when it comes to magic ! What she is though is a character that enjoys a bit of comfort and what’s wrong with that? Ivy has lost all faith in the self important Order so when a magical binding is placed on her by mistake trust me Ivy is not going to go quietly. No she might have been dragged into their mess but she sure is going to make it obvious that there’s no way she’s going to actually help them or is she ?I liked Ivy and her snark and humour really made her a heroine I wanted to see read more about. She might be looked down upon by many but guess what? Ivy couldn’t care less and in fact uses their bigotry to her own advantage. So what if her slimy ex is giving her the come on because he hasn’t got a snowballs chance. No far more tempting is her gorgeous but uptight blue eyed partner Winter. Trouble is he actually wants Ivy to work and that dear friends really isn’t her bag. No Ivy will show up and pay lip service but somehow things are getting out of control. Fear not though as Ivy isn’t alone no she has her familiar Brutus the talking cat who really does have a mind of his own!Great characters , a twisting mystery and even the possibility of romance meant this book kept me up reading until 1.30 am so definitely a new author for me to check out.
