Beautiful and informative book
Not only is this book extremely informative, it is also a work of art. The author's unique approach of actually painting her horse to show the placement and function of the bones and muscles of the horse at rest and in motion, provides a wonderful illustration to the reader. The author provides clear and concise descriptions of the parts of the horse's body, and together with the photographs and illustrations it is very straightforward and easy to follow. There are photographs of actual bones that really help give an understanding of the horse's body (as well as your own if, as in my case, you dont have much of a grounding in human anatomy). She begins by covering the basic muscles, bones, joints, ligaments and tendons and how they work, then goes on to cover movement and training and how particular exercises affect, strengthen and shape the horse's body. I had purchased several books on horse anatomy and this is by far my favorite. I have learned so much and now get even more enjoyment out of spending time with my horse because I have a much better understanding of how she works from the inside.

Book is exactly as described!
Arrived in a timely manner (shipped from the UK), undamaged, and is a great book with full color drawings. I know the author personally and this is another great work from her!

Good for anatomy, not about biomechanics
I have mixed feelings about this one. It is a really nice anatomy book, so if you are interested in the names and locations of the body parts involved in locomotion, I would recommend this book. I'm a vet and have a lot of horse anatomy books and I think this is one of the better ones in this regard. However, I interpreted the title to mean that there would be discussions of actual biomechanics of motion, and this is not the focus of this book.

An amazing guide to how your horse moves!
If you are interested in biomechanics and understanding the internal structures of your horse's body, this is the book to buy! A fantastic educational guide to the movement of your horse naturally and under saddle. The paintings are amazing, both shown on a horse at rest and in motion.Although the author explains the bones, ligaments, tendons and muscle, some basic knowledge of anatomy makes this a comprehensive educational tool.A truly unique guide and well worth the money spent!

This book is a good addition to my library
This book is a good addition to my library. I did find it to be just a little... disjointed at times. I kept an anatomy book handy which helped to enhance what the author was trying to say. I am glad I have it though.

Wonderul!
A beautiful, well put together book. For a thinking horseman, it is a huge help to understand how the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and skeleton work to make movement. One can better visualize what's going on with the horse and how to implement a customized training program for his unique structure.

Excellent informative book
Superb illustrations showing exactly how the horse moves. A particularly useful source of reference for my equine sculpture & drawing based artwork. Also a great book for the dedicated horse trainer/rider.

How Your Horse Moves
What a fascinating book! The author, an anatomist, literally paints the horse's internal structure on its skin, so we can see what it really looks like, and how it actually moves. The accuracy is incredible and although the subject of anatomy is not generally ideal for the squeamish, this is not the case here. I would highly recommend this book for any equine therapy/bodywork student, including vets, saddlers, farriers, and maybe riding school instructors, show judges, eventers, show competitors...OK, everyone with horses!

An excellent work - well worth reading
An excellent resource for novices with enough depth to interest the more experienced rider. Although fairly technical in places the diagrams gives the clarity so often missing in words alone.
