Courage for Beginners: 5.25

We read to our young daughters every day and she was needing a confidence boost and the title of this book caught my eye in a book store. I made note of it and made the purchase later and I am glad that I did. As it turned out, it was not only an amazing book but so is everything we ended up purchasing by Karen Harrington (Sure Signs of Crazy and Mayday). We were genuinely interested in the characters that Harrington created, and considering this was their first chapter book, it held the attention of our children. I am looking forward to reading more by Karen Harrington in the future.

My daughter and I enjoyed reading this book together. I can't think of anything morally offensive in the book. I think this is a good inspirational book for the "losers" and "dorks" in middle school. Against incredible odds, Mysti is able to overcome many of her fears and flower with the help of her new and loyal friend Rhama Khan. The story also shows Mysti's deteriorating relationship between Anibal "the animal" Gomez who chooses the path of the dark side seeking popularity at the cost of cruelty. There are some good Texas history lessons about the Alamo and what it takes to be a hero.

This book was really good. There was no main action just small pieces. I would recommend to all my friends!

First of all, I like Karen Harrington's writing skills. I loved Sure Signs of Crazy. There were so many memorable lines, many of which are underlined in yellow in my book.Courage for Beginners is equally as good. I like the way Ms. Harrington makes Mysti Murphy come alive. I loved her friend RamaKahn. Such a great read-aloud! I will definitely be using this book in all my presentations for Fifth graders!We need more writers like Ms. Harrington who keep inspiring all of us to Keep Reading!I Loved this book!

Super book, I thought it was going to be juvenile. I am a 7th reading teacher, so I read lots of YA books. This was a great story. Well-written and a terrific protagonist dealing with a sensitive topic.

New book in perfect condition. It took a couple if weeks to arrive, but for the price it was worth it.
