Exactly what I needed!
I recently learned to read basic music. So this book is a perfect next step for a simi-newbie such as myself. I have been playing my Alto Recorder the same as my Saprano and Tenor. (I'm kind of new to them all) I love the smooth sound of my Yamaha Alto so I decided to learn to play it correctly. I hope to get more books for my Alto Recorder soon. I found recommendations for this book on YouTube from Recorder Players.

Not for recorder beginners.
Lovely book. I've not been able to use it as I am a beginner to the alto and cannot sight read music! I played a bit of soprano in primary school, like many people, and decided to try one again in lock-down (I'm now 60!). But I preferred the lower sound of the alto (in F) which I played with soprano (in C) fingering. I decided to try to learn the alto fingering properly so bought this book, but it assumes one already has a good working knowledge of reading music and the appropriate fingering for the Alto!!! Had I known this I would not have bought it yet!

Basic book
As someone starting treble recorder some 50 years after playing descant in childhood, but with good musical knowledge, this seemed to be a well reviewed tutor book for self tuition. Admittedly, it does say it's ideal for those moving on to treble from descant, but I was a bit disappointed that there is no advice about recorder technique. Oddly, it does then cover basics on reading music which I didn't need. As you work through, it does clearly show the fingering for almost the complete range of of notes and has a helpful chart of fingering for both soprano and treble.I didn't realise a CD version was available, which I think would have been helpful to have an idea how fast the pieces should be played. As far as the practice pieces go I think they are rather poorly chosen. As you progress through learning the notes, some pieces are absurdly difficult with a mix of sharps/flats/neutrals or appear to be very fast, while others only have one occurrence of the new note to learn and are much less challenging. It is an inexpensive tutor book, but I think there are probably other far more worth buying.

useful
I played treble recorder when I was at junior school and loved it; during the ensuing years exams came and went, careers likewise so no more playing. Now I am past all that it is time to refresh my brain as to how to play and have fun. This book has been tremendously helpful and a good purchase.

treble after 40 years
I am re-visiting my youth, and trying the treble after 40 years of longing to do so. This book seems to be just the place to start. I am very pleased with it and would recommend it to anyone starting. Simply presented, clearly written, and easy to understand. As soon as the treble arrives, (later today) I'll be squeaking away joyfully. Can't wait.

Erm 🎶😮
Thought I'd have a go at teaching myself to play the treble, seen as played it vaguely at junior school. I've certainly learned the fingering (already know how to read music), oh but the majority of tunes are dire!Dear lizaStuart's bookie!!Dinosaur stomp!!!!I'm up to page 41 out of 53, and have liked only one tune so far. Two stars because you will learn to play, but alas dismally 😮
