Valuable ideas, sometimes a bit abstract
Bill Johnson is not for everyone. He is charismatic in his theology, and some people are going to disagree out of hand with many of the things that he says. Even for a Pentecostal like myself, there are some things that he says that cause me to push back a bit. However, there are many things in this devotional book that are extremely valuable for perspective and inspiration. There is an undercurrent in the work, a thread of thought throughout all of the entries, that essentially suggests we are living far below the standard God called the church to. Where Johnson’s charismatic roots come into play concerning that idea is seen in his focus on miracles and spiritual gifts as the evidence of the church’s anemic standards. He does not work against the idea of purity in behavior or righteous living, he seems to value those things highly, but he adds that element of spiritual power and demonstration as God‘s intention and plan for the modern church. He does not adopt a “hunker down” mentality for the church in the last days. Instead, he seems to suggest that the church is going to be allotted, and has been allotted, more power and more gifting because of the darkness of the days in which we live.I was challenged by this devotional in a good way, and his interpretation of scripture was unique - especially when compared to the Calvinist and mainline writers that most of us usually read or hear from. It is not an enormous time investment. Less than five minutes a day gets you through the 40 days of this devotional. But it does spawn much prayer. Some prayer because the content is convicting and there is a need for response in prayer. Other prayer is incited by working through some of the theological implications of Johnson’s interpretations. I found myself frequently praying for wisdom and insight after reading these entries.

Are you ready to take the challenge?
One of the most quotable books I have ever read.In this landmark book Bill Johnson pleads his case that christianity is supernatural from beginning to end and that a gospel that isn't accompanied by signs and wonders, should be suspicious from the outset. The lives of christians should be filled with signs and wonders, because the live of our Master was filled with it and He commanded his followers to do what He did!The ministry of Jesus was characterized most by His miracles and He placed so much weight on this aspect that He stated "If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me;" (John 10:37). How different the world would be today if the church would say what Jesus is saying here. "If you don't see us performing signs and miracles, don't believe what we are saying!"The book is very challenging and will probably make some believers feel very uncomfortable. For example the emphasis that Bill places on the word 'is' in 1 John 4:17 ("because as He *IS*, so are we in this world.") has challenged me a lot and thinking about how much I yet have to understand of what Jesus redemptive work has made me.It also shows how much in church can just be 'religion' (form without power) and can turn many once-powerful works of God into dead museums, no matter how much lights and funky music there is.I have some reservations as to whether I would recommend this book to a new believer, because I still believe that having a solid foundation in Scripture is paramount and we should be taking that as a guideline above manifestations like gold dust, feathers and glory clouds. But still, you have to wonder if you only know scripture, but never experience anything miraculous, how much you get the core and purpose of scripture: a living, breathing relationship with God Himself and Him manifesting His presence through you.A book that ihmo can be considered a true modern day classic that every christian should read.

Some reservations
OVERALL, I like this book. I recently devoured 4 books by Dutch Sheets, which I found to be eye-openers, and I think this author says many of the same things as Sheets. He also has a wonderful way of making points so that it make you stop short and think. He's very inspirational, and makes you want to really get out there and get busy.HOWEVER, there were a few things I found troubling:1. He seems a little too inclined to throw caution to the wind, leaning a little too far to extremes.2. Occasionally he seems to take a Scripture and let his imagination run wild with it, to the extent that he's reading too much into it.3. He shows a total disregard of his critics. To be sure, many of these people may be coming from the wrong angle, including some who don't believe signs and wonders are for today. But some may be people like me who just want to be a little more cautious, reining in uncontrolled exuberance and making sure that what he teaches really does line up with the Bible. This isn't to say he's necessarily wrong. But I'd like to see him provide a little more Scriptural basis for believing in certain things. Why, for example, does he think this is the generation that will see the great end-time revival? -- let alone in 10 years?I find myself remembering 1 John 4:1: "[D]o not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world." This isn't to imply that the author himself is a false prophet. But I do think caution is needed when deciding whether to accept his teachings.I have a couple of his other books, but I think I'll wait a bit before reading them. I want to think and pray for awhile and see what the Spirit shows me about this material.

A great book that brings revelation and keeps you focused on the Lord.
I enjoyed this book and also bought the 40 day personal journey "Daily Devotional & Journal" to go with it.They brought life and gave me the early start to the day that all Christians need in order to reflect his Glory into the darkness of this world. The books bring us all into the reality the Holy Spirit is real is a person alive and active co-equal and co-eternal with the Father and with the Son in the God head.Dont think the books are going to be heavy going especially the journal because it has questions and meditation in it.The whole devotional time is so relaxing with the Lord as you read and flow with the Holy Spirit- you will be Blessed. Please note- AMAZON. our God is not god and the Holy Spirit is not holy spirit. To find out more read the Holy Bible - and be Blessed.

The book that changed my life
I always thought miracles were done by God through celebrity preachers like Benny Hinn etc. This book opened my eyes to what a normal christian life should be and I have never been the same since! I have bought several copies over the years for various friends. I still count it as on of my all time favourite books

How Good is waking up His church
Amazing teaching with up to date testimonies of God moving in power through ordinary people inside and outside the church today. Challengingly honest, exciting, but real this is a book which equips and encourages the individual (and the church) to encounter God afresh and from that place step out of the boat into a world which needs His love, forgiveness and healing. This is not a book for reading once; its a manual which will wake up the church.

Bill Johnson is a very evangelical Christian and, although many Christians either tend to constrain the power of God in their minds, or feel they are not worthy to either bother God, or request his healing powers, etc., this book might not give the reader the encouragement to expect more of God. I also read 'More' by Simon Ponsonby which was much more up my street, very much more encouraging.

A wake up call to the church
What are we supposed to do , Sit in pews and just listen? NO, it is time to realise that when we say the lords prayer , we mean it .Thy kingdom come , thy will be done on earth! same as it is in heaven . This book speaks of GOD'S awesome power that is available to his church .The power of his spirit saving and healing . If your problem is not in heaven , then we do not have to accept it on earth . A mind opening book , helps to show you where you may be going wrong in your spiritual life and also encourage you to have a spiritual life through a loving relationship with GOD . A great read , makes you want to expand in to GODS supernatural realm .
