Atlantic Records and warner Strategic Marketing are proud to announce a landmark event in music history- the release of the mother lode of Led Zeppelin live recordings: Led Zeppelin DVD, a two-disc set and How The West Was Won, a three CD set. The DVD and CD sets each contain entirely different material, so theres no overlap between the two releases. The DVD includes few performances which were ever filmed during the band's lifetime: London's Royal Albert Hall, five-night run at London's Earl Court, shows at England's Knebworth Festival, and songs from New York's Madison Square Garden. DVD Features include: Excerpts from Danish and French television performance, Austrailian television interviews with Robert Plant, John Bonham and John Paul Jones, Fan-shot bootleg performance of "Heartbreaker", Behind the scenes footage of Knebwort, and NBC interview with the band from 1970. Review: Phenomenal.....period. - This DVD set is simply amazing. I'm glad they decided to release this concert footage because there isn't anything else out there (except The Song Remains The Same). In their day Led Zeppelin shunned commercialism so there is very limited documentation of them in TV interviews or live concert footage. They felt that in order to truly appreciate the band and it's music, you had to go see them live in concert. These concerts were originally filmed for the band's own personal use and enjoyment. I know it all boils down to money, but Jimmy Page was involved in every aspect of this DVD release (the video was restored and looks sharp and crisp, the music was remastered in stereo and sounds supurb). As a result, they released a superior product. I was too young to see Zeppelin live, so this is the next best thing. When you run this through your TV and stereo system at home, you almost feel as if you are there. The band sounds great live. This is what rock 'n' roll, and Led Zeppelin, is all about. A must own for all fans of Zeppelin. On DVD 1, The Royal Albert Hall concert from 1970 is great. The highlights of the show include John Bonham's 'Moby Dick' and the band's performance of 'What Is And What Should Never Be'. But the real treat on the DVD for me is the Danmarks Radio performance in 1969 that was caught on film. The band cranks out a live, raw, practically spot-on performance. DVD 1- Live at the Royal Albert Hall 1970 (102 min): We're Gonna Grove, I Can't Quit You Baby, Dazed and Confused, White Summer, What Is and What Should Never Be, How Many More Times, Moby Dick, Whole Lotta Love, Communication Breakdown, C'mon Everybody, Something Else, Bring It On Home. DVD 1 Extras - Communication Breakdown video from 1969 (2:24). Danmarks Radio Performance from 1969 (31:24): Communication Breakdown, Dazed And Confused, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, How Many More Times. Supershow from 1969 (7:31): Dazed And Confused. Tous En Scene from 1969 (9:01): Communication Breakdown, Dazed And Confused. DVD 2 is really good and features performances throughout the 1970s. The first video on here is just a montage of photos and different concert video clips for the live version of Immigrant Song (I guess they didn't have decent concert footage for it). The DVD also has concert footage from the 1973 Madison Square Garden show that never made it in the movie documentary "The Song Remains The Same". DVD 2 - Immigrant Song (live) from 1972 (4:03). Madison Square Garden concert from 1973 (23:24): Black Dog, Misty Mountain Hop, Since I've Been Loving You, The Ocean. Earls Court concert 1975 (49:00): Going To California, That's The Way, Bron Yr Aur Stomp, In My Time of Dying, Trampled Under Foot, Stairway To Heaven. Knebworth concert 1979 (50:11): Rock And Roll, Nobody's Fault But Mine, Sick Again, Achilles Last Stand, In The Evening, Kashmir, Whole Lotta Love. DVD 2 Extras - 1970 NYC press conference (3:27). Down Under 1972 (5:17): Rock And Roll, Interviews with the band. The Old Grey Whistle Test 1975 (3:47): Robert Plant interview. Promo 1 video 1990 (4:49): Over The Hills And Far Away. Promo 2 video 1990 (4:12): Travelling Riverside Blues. If anyone is new to the band and isn't sure where to start song wise, be sure to check out desertcart's MP3 area for $1 Led Zeppelin song downloads. Start with songs from Zeppelin II like Heartbreaker, Whole Lotta Love, Living Loving Maid, Ramble On or Thank You. Or songs from Zeppelin IV like Rock N Roll, Black Dog or Stairway To Heaven. And then build from there. Zep 1: Communication Breakdown. Zep III: Immigrant Song. Etc. Here is an interesting site that gives detailed descriptions of Zep songs and the musical influences behind each and why Zep was accused of plagarism and taken to court a number of times, especially on Zeppelin I. [...] Review: Nothing short of INCREDIBLE - First i want to say that desertcart got my order here fast and secure. I am very impressed! Second.... This DVD is a true time portal. I have been a Zep fan since I was 10 years old, and (Im not giving away my age lol) but Its amazing to see the early stages of this stellar band. All the way through to the end of the flight. I remember hearing the day JB died and (another hint at my age lol) and I was saddened... Since that time I have always love Zep, and have gone through many stages of picking them up and putting them down. Well since the West was won and this DVD came out it has sparked a new flame for a Incredible band that I never have gotten to see. All the way to the year I was born ( ok if you dont know my age your pretty dumb lol) It is amazing to see how many times they take the same song and just play whatever and still are in tune with each other. That my friend is true speech through music. Of course I love bands like Rush and perfection too, but This DVD captures the magic of a true mammoth of a band. When I hear people say Zep sold out im like whatever.. People loved them and its evident in this film. making cash from people who love you is not selling out its giving and recieving... Anyhow..lol. Tangets lol. If you even remotely were or are into zeppelin.. this is a piece of music history, GET IT. Ive heard every single zep song a million times and its fresh again and new versions of the same songs are awesome. As a drummer myself, all the footage of Bonham alone is worth the price. (I also play guitar and Bass.. So To me its a bargain lol) Seeing them when They were 20 and how far they were along musically is also mind boggling. Anyhow.. Zep by far was (and hopefully is again) the Best band ever.. Well.. there are the 10 top bands of all time.. But Zep is on the mountain.. This DVD is AWESOME, INCREDIBLE and easy to watch over and over ( I rarely watch movies over and over too) The sound is cleaned up and if you watched the Song Remains the same as many times as I did, your in for a treat. The pictures are sharper and the sound is not as watered down. ( TSRS is sonically inferior and The fidelity is not as good as this one ) Its like you were there. Have fun and rock on people..Sorry for the typos.. this isnt a school report lol. Peace

Never Have Seen a Led Zeppelin Concert.
The remaining three members of Led Zeppelin were recently honored at the Kennedy Center. I have one of their CD's on my IPod, but became interested in their concerts during the 12 years the four members performed. It took a year for Jimmy Page to restore and put together segments of the various concerts they performed. This is a two package DVD set of different sagments of some of their performances. The chemistry of the four of them was phenomenal. Each one of the four took a turn as the leader of their band. When Robert Plant was recruited by Jimmy Page to sing with band, Led Zepplin, he was singing blues in clubs around London. Robert Plant recommded his long time boyhood frind, drummer John Bohham, to be a member of the band. John Paul Jones was a recording musician and when he heard Jimmy Page was forming a new band, he asked Jimmy Page if he could be a part of it. John Paul Jones has remarkable talent for playing both the bass guaitar and keyboards. The songs Led Zepplin play are a combination of blues songs sung by the slaves in the "old South" and heavy metal and hard rock. This combination of sound was innovated for its time and, at first, was critized, but when they began having armies of fans following them from concert to concert, even their harshest critics took notice At first their songs sound harsh and unforgiving, but after listening to them one begins to hear the harmony of the four members. Robert Plant's wailing minics Jimmy Pages' guitar moans and you can hear the two shirking in tandom over Bonham and Jones' racing percision (this is part of a quote from their album, "Mothership,") I have downladed their "Mothership" CD's to my Ipod and I never tire of listening to it. This is one of my favorite CD's in the collection of classic rock CD's I have downloaded to my Ipod. When viewing the band in concert, they are unpretentous and no one member wears clothes that put him a part from the other members. It seems they just grabbed whatever was in their closet to wear on stage. In fact, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page wear the same shirt on different occassions. They look like they just got together for a music session even though they are playing in front of hundreds of fans. They had their own jet and flew to different countries giving concerts one after another. They were like mad mem playing concerts and recording albums. They recorded four albums in the twelve years they were Led Zepplin. Their songs are an echo-soaked mass of acousitic and electric guitars and Plant's singing in the double time break (this is also a partial quote from the pamphlet that is written for their "Mothership" album). As both Led Zepplin and the Beattles are English bands, the media keeps asking members of Led Zepplin how they compare themselves to the Beattles. Their is no comparison. The music of both bands are like night and day. Unfortunately Led Zepplin did not evolve as the Beattles did due to the loss of their drummer; at which time, they discontinued as "Led Zepplin."

Led Zep DVD ... Zep DEFINES SHOWMANSHIP & PROFESSIONALISM
Picture, if you will, the extra-human, godly ability to wave a magic wand, flash back in time, and fly back to 1969, 1970, 1973, 1975, and 1979. Then, imagine, IF you could, having the MONEY and ability to spend thousands of dollars or pounds, to take the jets overseas, buy hugely expensive AND impossible-to- get front-row-seats, (and the ability to wander the stage during the shows), and watch a fine sampling of some of time's most mysterious concerts. Royal Albert Hall, home of Mozart, Brahms, et.al. Earl's Court, London, Madison Square Garden, and more. THESE ARE STOPS ON THIS TOUR! WELL, readers, THAT is EXACTLY what Atlantic and Warner Brothers have done for EACH OF YOU!! I saw 5 of Zep's live shows, and, regardless of how many times I saw them, I wanted MORE. Every show was different, every show had it's own stars, its own personality. I never saw enough of them.. Always wanted more: Well, HERE IT IS!! While this is not a visual record of the very best audio performances, it does quantify EXACTLY the other important side of Zep: The Fabulous visual stage show you got, whenever Jimmy Page, and Robert Plant got into their psychic hotline dual riffs. Or whenever Pagey and John Bonham, rock's finest percussionist, got into THEIR telepathic rock-beat connection, and hooked onto an extemporaneous, innovative jam. It's all here. Jimmy Page does some fine (not his best, but mighty fine) work here. Robert's voice, as usual, is stratospheric, although the echoplex that marked many of the live shows, is often missing. These are the tunes, the shows, that cost me a load of A's, turning them into low B's or C's, when I spent whole nights driving 200-400-590 miles back to college, and showing up late for pop quizes I was not exactly up to scratch for... The 1st DVD, even though dated, through the end of DVD 2, spans the entire career of the ZEP, from the first month (Danish Radio Show) to the nearly last show, Zep's fine job at the 1979 Knebworth Concert for reading disabled kids. In between is a ton of just plain magic moments. For those of you who weren't around, then, I suggest you dig up tapes of the OTHER contemporary groups' live material (in 1969/70) at that time. Most other (even major groups) live shows were loud, out of tune, raucous garbage. NOT SO, HERE! While not letter perfect, this is some amazing, timeless stuff; WAAAYY ahead of its time... As we said about the How the West Was Won CD's, their best AUDIO material is THERE. However, for those of you wanting to SEE a fabulous VISUAL ROCK SHOW, complete with Page doing his amazing leads while spending 97% of his time step dancing, Irish river dancing, moonwalking, jumping (yes, jumping), playing guitar on a knee, behind his back, or playing guitar leads over his head, and doing anything but watching the neck of his guitar! With Robert Plant showing off his tight jeans, and swagger, Bonham showing everyone how drums are REALLY played; or John Paul Jones, playing a row of synth winds with one hand, strings with his other hand, and bass on his footpedals; THIS is your ticket to a real, real fun time, and top notch musicians/showmen!! Plenty for all to see and hear. Rock and Roll. Metal; Page's Violin Bow seques, other-worldy theremin, exemplary guitar solo work (As in the amazing White Summer/Black Mountainside); kick ...rock, as In My Time of Dying, and an unbeleivably tight Trampled Under Foot, made all the more incredible, because one of Jimmy's E strings breaks 2/3 of the way into the song. Can You Tell? NOPE... These back to back rockers stomp that rock beast into the dust. These guys DEFINE professionalism... Beautiful acoustic sets, with Zep III and IV's best folk work adorn DVD 2. Then, after aforesaid InMyTime.. and Trampled, a triumphant romp through the years, and the hits at Knebworth '79, to top it all off. If you're not a Zep fan, don't bother. There isn't much here that will change your mind. But for those of you who LIKE Led Zeppelin, you will LOVE THESE SHOWS. All in all, an incredible, amazing experience, I will enjoy this DVD set for the rest of my life. And remember times, and events, in clarity, with some of the greatest songs of all times, to go along with them. This is one DVD set every fan of rock and roll needs in the collection. Preferably at the front. Thanks, Atlantic, and Warner, and Jimmy, John, John Paul, and Robert!! Thanks for such great tunes & great memories!!

Fresh From A Dumpster Near YOU
It's really funny reading reviews on what was truly a terrible band that was much loved by teeny boppers who wouldn't know good playing if it jumped off the stage and bit them in the arse... The ultimate FAKE lousy terrible sloppy know nothing HAIR BAND. Get over it you 70s wanna-be teeny bopper poseurs. Bonham runs out of gas during his own solos. Page can mostly play Barr chords (which take two weeks to master on the gee-tar). Plant can't sing a note. He can simply screech. The bass player is OK, but what do you want? It's just rock bass, nothing hard. This band proved to me that all the grad student Kennedy era college educated guys and gals had all left the scene. Music had devolved to a dumpster diving garage band level. And it was never to come back. Have fun kiddies. This is a tribute to your own narcissistic pathetic loser smelly cheap lousy music. HAIR BAND. HAIR BAND HAIR BAND HAIR BAND. I think I made my point. Face it. Rock and Roll is a primitive, simple minded folk music without any depth. At best it is pleasant songs meant to be sung or danced to. It was not COMPOSED by a person capable of the intricacies or skill necessary to write for the stage or orchestra. It is just at best SIMPLE folk music performed by talented first year players. Even the Beatles were not great players but at least they tried to COMPOSE songs worth singing. This cr*p? Not so much... I hate the narrow minded taste of people that applaud such drivel. 100 years from now people (if we haven't killed the planet by then) will look back at this recording and wonder if we had all lost our minds.

GREAT!! I was a big fan... NOW I AM BIG,BIG FAN AGAIN!!!
I don't know what happen to previous reviewer, but what he/she said about didn't happen to me. This DVD is marvelous, beyond my expectation. Thank you Jimmy!! The only LedZep concert I ever watch was "The Song Remains The Same" video which I didn't enjoy very much. But this DVD is different. You expect concerts, you'll have it. Some friend said I can not have LedZep playing in concert as good as their records, but since I saw this DVD, I can prove they were wrong. LedZep can play good and clean in 1970's Royal ALbert Hall. They're exciting. I never see them playing trio so good (if you compare it with "the song remains the same") with Robert Plant on vocal. Robert also perform excellent and look like real man (compare it with 'the song remains ..' when he's playing finger). They're young, strong, good looking, and have charisma. Bonzo's also in his ultimate performance. On second DVD we can see they performed Immigrant Song (the first Led Zep song I heard when I was just 7). I always wonder how they perform this in concert, but this DVD give the answer. We can see this as video montage, when they're not really filming it when they're playing. This is maybe the previous reviewer talking about. Some scene just grainny, but the sound is good. Still on the second disc, we can see the songs not included in "the song remains...". What make me happy, I can see them playing Black Dog. Man, they've done it well. I wonder this not in "the song remains..". We can also see their (last?) performance in 1979 Knebworth concert, when they played some last classic like "in the evening", "kashmir", etc. Surprised when I saw Bonzo's still energetic when he close "Rock'n Roll" with his great drumming roffel. This DVD also provide clips (Oh, I like it), promo, TV concert (Denmark & France TV where audience so neat and calm incl. kids?), and interview (Man, why they'd being quetioned about The Beatles?). The one I complain is... to much "Communication Breakdown" (almost in all concert and promo). But it's great. As long as we're talking about DVD, the most important is, the pic is clean and bright (not like what previous reviewer said) and I'm happy with it. Great Jimmy, great!!. I'm interested in 'How West Was Won'. Btw, today local newspaper in my place, have an article about this DVD and LedZep. I'm happy to be one who have seen this. To Amazon : I've ever seen DVD call "LedZep: Their early concert" (or tittled close like it) in local store (but they're gone very fast) which I've never seen sold in your store. Do you have any information about this?

What might have been
The Royal Albert Hall footage is absolutely mesmerizing, and this is not only due to the audio/video quality. The impact of that particular concert is made all the more powerful because it is not marred by the speed cuts which plague the rest of the film. The second disc is extremely aggravating in that the MSG, Earl's Court, and Knebworth footage is almost sickening to watch. For example: a shot of Jimmy's guitar immediately cuts to a shot of Robert then to a shot of a fan then to a side shot of the stage, and so on. Before any real emotional tension can be built in one shot, it is cut away from. Whoever edited this (Carruthers?) should have followed the example of The Band's concert film "The Last Waltz". Scorcese knew how to compile his different camera angles so that the images would complement the music instead of getting in its way. Had the editing on the Zeppelin DVD been more graceful - rather than done in a frenetic MTV style - the footage would be far more enjoyable. I must say that there is some beautiful cinematography - especially for the MSG material - but again, the rapid cutting lessens the impact dramatically. For all of its problems, at least the Song Remains the Same movie didn't trigger epilepsy in its viewers.

PRICELESS 1970 SHOW worth the price of admission alone..
The 1970 performance on disc 1 is probably the best show on here. They're practically kids!! Plant is almost shy when he talks to the audience and is much less flamboyant or polished than just a few years later at Madison Square Garden and Earls Court. Oh, but his powers are there. And dig the sideburns. They look like a garage band except that even at this early point in their career they're still so f***ing high-octane, they're more like a force of nature than anything born of a garage. Their stage attire (if you can call it that) is just the kind of ordinary clothes you might wear to the park (no dragon zoSo pants or open shirts) on a fine London afternoon (in 1970). But lurking beneath the plain exterior is the beast that was Led Zeppelin. It's incredible to watch. Without the polish and confidance of a few years under their belt and covering only stuff from the first and second album they are STILL the meanest sounding garage band this and that side of the Atlantic. Filmed in London, this is VINTAGE Zeppelin before they were REALLY big. For true Zepp fans, priceless. Their look, sound and stage show here are noticably different from Song Remains the Same. 1970 is already a vintage-like-fine-wine year for most filmed rock n roll shows and rock music in general, but to see Zeppelin doing it that year is to witness a kind of "creme de la creme" in the fledgling world of heavy metal, with it's roots still deep in the previous few decades of folk and blues whilst giving new definition to the word 'rock n roll'. Reviewers who don't appreciate this show either don't care for early 70s rock, or don't KNOW early 70s rock. This stuff is the witches brew. This is the band a year after their first album, a year after Woodstock, and the same year Janis and Jimi died. What a point in the history of music. The clarity of the sound and picture on this show make it a real treat for Zepp fans who get a chance to step back in time to see what they were doing whilst we were in diapers, or roaming around in the ether.
