Very nice watercolor paint
This is my take on Grumbacher Academy Watercolor Paint. These paints come in a 7.5ml tube, which is a quarter of an ounce, and I ordered the Payne's Gray. I've used a wide variety of artist and student watercolor paints, both pan and tube, and the Grumbacher Academy is among my favorite student grade paints, but I didn't have the Payne's Gray till now.So, like my other Grumbacher Academy watercolors, this arrived unseparated. I've talked to Grumbacher, and the base in their Academy line is vegan, so no oxgall or gelatin. It's smooth, not too thick, and the texture is very nice. It has no odor, mixes well with water, and is good for mixing (I sometimes use it as a neutral tint), and I find it's good for wet-in-wet and wet-on-dry techniques. It makes a lovely transparent wash. The paint is well-pigmented.There are a couple things I really like about these paints. Unlike some student grade paints, the pigment information is available for these - you can find the full color chart with pigment listings on the Grumbacher website. Once you know the pigments, you'll know or be able to find out the lightfastness rating, staining or non-staining and whether a color is transparent, semi-opaque or opaque. I'm also happy you can order the tubes open stock rather than only in sets.As far as the reviewer who found the tubes small, at 7.5ml, they're 50% larger than the 5ml smaller tubes from many artist brands including Daniel Smith and Holbein. All in all, these are very satisfying to paint with, and I haven't found any issues or anything that holds me back. I prefer them to Winsor & Newton Cotman and Royal Talen's Van Gogh, but that's probably just personal preference. In any event, for me, these fall at the top of my favorite student grade watercolors and surpass some artist grade paints I've used. I really enjoy them.

Good paint
Grumbacher is my favorite watercolor brand, it’s a nice thick non clumping paint and blends great.

Needing a good adorable paynes grey
I like this brand along with a few others but at this time this was a good value. Will continue to replace my colors as needed be with this brand. Have used this since the early 1990’s when I was taking classes.

Good paint
I recently took a beginner's watercolor class, and the instructor said he didn't believe in using white watercolor paint. I tried his method of showing the white of the paper by either masking the area first, painting over it, then removing the mask. Another option is to dab the area with tissue to remove the paint and get to the white underneath. After I accidentally painted over some clouds and the paint was too dry to blot, I checked out some Youtube videos and decided to buy this Grumbacher white paint. It came to the rescue and helped make my clouds much brighter and white. I think it is good to have options to work with. I included the photo for you to see how bright the clouds looked.

Perfect Addition to Any Watercolor Palette
I’ve gotten two different sets of tubes of watercolor paints and never includes a Payne’s Gray! This one came right out of the tube completely mixed and ready to go. Really good value for money. I would buy it again.

Great but….
I’m only disappointed in the fact that they sent each tube INDIVIDUALLY in these extra large plastic, padded envelopes! To add insult to injury, I thought I’d give this “save the planet thing” a try and chose later delivery to “save on shipping materials.” 7 items were to come on a Wednesday (2days later than if I’d not chosen to save the planet). Two weeks later, the items arrived daily, AND IN THESE OBSCENE planet killing plastic envelopes. Imagine a TEENSY-TINY little .25 oz tube arriving separately in those packages? Wtheck? But I do love the paint.

Reliable delivery adds to the pleasure
I have waited a long time to order this product. important to me is the anticipation of its arrival. I like to track the package and found the tracking reliable from the time of shipping to delivery. IT was like Christmas when it arrived. It is exactly as described and will add to the watercolor painting experience.
