a bit outdated
I believe underground building has a lot of potential. This book is interesting to scan through, but doesn't offer much practical use today. There is more useful info in internet.

Best book on the subject I've ever read!
Actually, I checked this out at the local library and read it, and when I was done I knew I either had to steal it or find one to buy. I've been researching building our underground home since the late 80's (stuck in a money pit rehab my wife insisted on to this day), and this is THE BEST book of ANY kind that I've come across. I'm a union Ironworker (retired), and I've worked in construction, welding, rehabbing old houses and been a DIY'er for most of my adult life. I learned things in this book about soil composition and traits, concrete and even rebar (concrete reinforcing rods) and steel properties that I either didn't know, or knew about but didn't understand. I've taken two year courses in welding and metallurgy, went through a 3 year apprenticeship, taught apprentices for 4 years and taken pond and lake management (with dam building theory and technique), and this book was just a revelation to me. If you are really thinking about building an earth home, this has some fantastic information. Even at 20+ years on, when we finally start to build this year, this is the book that I'll have on the plan table, or at least under it, for the whole project. Thank you, Herb Wade!!

Answered all my questions-- contributed great ideas
This is the "go to" book for technical and design of earth sheltered homes. It may be "old school" but old fashioned physics works everyday in the construction of homes.Do not be mislead by the copyright date. This is the BEST book on the subject I have seen.
