Penrose is great, Maxwell is better.
Had the Penrose, the sound was awesome but the headset had multiple problems. Some batches were made with sub par plastic that would snap/shear from fatigue in less than a year.Sent the Penrose in for warranty. Audeze was out of Penrose stock and backlogged with Maxwell orders and so I had to wait three months for my replacement. However, they sent me a Maxwell instead for wait. Receieved them today. They are awesome and an improvement over Penrose in every regard. If you're reading this review I give the Penrose 4 stars and the Maxwell 5. Thanks to Audeze for their customer service.

If your primary use for these is PS5 don't bother.
After spending some time watching reviews online regarding the Penroze excellent sound quality and knowing audeze as a very very good audio company I decided to give these a shot. For reference of this review I own quite a few gaming headsets and also headphones from Artist pro wireless and Arctis Pro game DAC, Logitech pro x (wired),hyper cloud X, beyerdynamic (various models),Phillips Fidelio..... And the list goes on.So here are my thoughtsThe headset looks and feels very premium and sleek. And the sound (depending on connection) is ver good.Other than that I don't really have much else to compliment this headset for.Comfort - 2/5The clamping force is very strong which would most likely loosen up after a bit of usage but coming from the arctis pro wireless these are like having a vice around your head.Sound - 4/5When hooking up to my pc and playing music from Amazon in HD they sounded very good. Very well balanced and can get very loud. Base is very controlled but not bloaty and the mids and highs were crisp and clear.Sadly this isnt the case for Bluetooth connection which when swapping from the 2.5ghz sounded rather muddy. This is not helped by the fact the headset only supports SBC/AAC connection.Functions -1/5They state that you can use these with Bluetooth and 2.4ghz at the same time which.... yes you can but don't even think to adjust the volume of either. I don't know if I just had a faulty unit but when I moved the volume rocker to adjust in game sound the sound from Bluetooth just disappeared and I would need to connect again to get it back and vice versa.Wireless range - 1/5Absolutely shocking........ I had the wireless dongle plugged into the front of my ps5 and I sit only about 1ft away from the console. If i got up from my chair to get a drink from the fridge in the same room less that 10ft away it would cut out and stutter.Bluetooth tho was fine for range.Compatability - 2/5Using these with pc was great. Sound was excellent using the software on the pc was easy and customisable but that's where it ends.Plugging these into ps5 everything became loud and messy.I primarily play FPS games.. warzone in particular.. hearing footsteps is really a must if you want to be competitive. No matter what I changed in game or in the eq software everything was just loud and exaggerated. For example if a cluster strike went off near it overpowered every other sound so you become completely unaware of nearby enemies which just made the game very frustrating.I really really wanted to like these headphones but for the price compared to its competitors on the market I don't think they are worth the money and on that note sadly I have returned these...Coming from the arctis pro wireless and also the game DAC version I can honestly say these headsets are amazing and I didn't really appreciate them as much as I should have. On that note I have ordered the steelseries nova pros and hoping these live up to the expectations I have from using there older versions. Thanks for taking the time to read my review and I hope it helps you in your decision 👍

Extremely Rough Diamond
Hi. Will keep it short to not waste your time. First of all - this is the best sound quality you can get for £300, hands down. Equalizer is also very helpful - I've managed to setup different profiles for movies, Esports titles and casual story games. Build quality is great too - product feels premium, despite being made of plastic almost entirely. Regarding comfort, the grip is very tough, but it does adapt to your head very quickly, a couple of hours is more than enough to completely forget about the headset squeezing your skull like a pole between the strippers' thighs. Now the bad things. My headset was insanely flawed and after browsing the Internet for a bit, I've discovered that it happens quite often. First of all, there's A LOT of white noise when you are not playing anything - personally, quite often I just read things or stare at the screen wondering what I am doing with my life and what is the meaning of life. During the moments like this you will ALWAYS hear white noise. Yes, you can lower it by turning off sidetone in the equalizer, but it will be still there - very quiet, but present. However, this is not the problem I have encountered - the issue I have had is that after some time my headset started popping and clicking, EVEN when disconnected and turned off entirely. Terrible feeling, impossible to ignore and with time it started to get louder and more noticeable. This is the moment when I wrapped it up and pressed 'Refund'. Also, regarding the Equalizer software - it does it's job, but insanely inconvenient. You can only do it when your headset is connected to your PC via a cable AND even then sometimes my headset has not been detected and I had to disconnect and reconnect it.There are way more things I could tell about this headset, both good and bad, but you are too lazy to read and I am too lazy to type, let's agree on that. But long story short - this headset is amazing, but has way too many flaws for its price. Plus, when you buy a headset for £300, you do not want to gamble, we already have too many lootboxes in games. I have no clue how many faulty headsets are there, maybe 5%, maybe 25%, maybe 50%, but there are quite a few people who had issues with it and I am on of them. I have returned mine within 48h - it says a lot.Regarding my experience with headphones and headsets, I have tried tons of them as I am a hardcore gamer and I also visit recording studios on a regular basis, so I've tried a lot of gaming and not gaming devices. Dozens of brands and tons of different types, therefore all I can say is this:I used to be an expert in sound devices, but then I took Penrose to the knee.3/5 for a NOT faulty device, if you get lucky.
