Dunlop 477P304 Primetone®, Round Tip, 3.0mm, 3/Player's Pack

Unique Jazz pick from the masters of jazz picks
I am a huge fan of Jim Dunlop Jazz picks. These Primetone picks are unique because they are thicker than ever. The 5mm round tip version has the most dramatic bevel I've played yet. I'm not sure that all the varieties are all this way, but the round tip version is beveled only on one side of each playing edge (left if it's pointed away from you) not beveled on all sides, so only the edge that strikes the string is rounded off.The craftsmanship on the pack I received is great. Playing with a 5mm pick takes some adjusting, but the tone is bombastic and well worth some effort. If you want to try something different, and you enjoy thick picks, these are well worth the money. If you enjoy playing guitar with extra-thin, cellophane guitar picks, you might want to try something more intermediate like a Jazz III first, because the 5mm thickness is pretty extreme.

Great picks!
I’ve been using these picks for a few weeks and have to say, they’re very good.I also have primetones and wegens, and every nylon or ultex size & thickness. These give a smooth attack and release without significant pick noise. They work especially well for me on funk-style or gypsy rhythm playing, even on an acoustic. The tone is a little fatter than a wegen in my experience - not quite as bright. The feel is excellent - it remains solidly in place with the textured thumb indentation & smoothly releases off the strings.I can flatpick, play single-note lines, or strum with this pick. It’s great for a price far below Wegen and BC, etc. The material still seems pretty durable - so far no significant wear to the only one I’ve used.

Very thick but surprisingly easy to use
I bought these picks because Django Reinhardt used picks made in a similar fashion, although his weren't made of whatever space age polymer these are made of, as it didn't exist in the 1930's. But since Django seemed to know a little something about playing guitar, I thought I'd try them. WOW! They're absolutely terrific, much easier to use than I ever thought they'd be, and I can play guitar or bass for hours without any fatigue or pain. Now if only they'd turn me into as good a guitarist as Django...LOL!

nice warm tone
I am still trying to get accustomed to the smaller size. This pic requires a bit more focus to control because of its smaller size but the tone is very smooth and warm. It works very well with the smoother darker acoustic guitar tunes on my beautiful 20+ year old Martin D-15 all mahogany.

I appreciate that these 5.0 mm lozenges exist!
For those of us doing a pick shootout, these 5.0 mm lozenges put things in perspective. These black fatties are curiously comfortable, but there are too many missed notes when doing fast alternate picking, probably because they lack a hard edge. The Flow shape in Ultex works for me, fast, articulate, accurate, but right around 2.00 mm is where they start to chirp a little too loudly, and it comes through the amp speaker. The 4.20 chirps loudly, but it’s comfortable, still has a nice tone, and the dark green, opaque color gives them the extra cool point in my humble opinion. I’ll likely never use this for guitar, but they make a great fidget device; simply roll them around between your fingers!

Not a fan
I got the 5.0mm Large Pointed Tip. The edge profile is really blunt, so while it is indeed very fast you get very little attack, and possibly the sounds of the pick scraping the string or of a string buzz against it as you make contact. You'd think they could have spared an extra picture to show the edge view. FWIW it's a hair thinner than 5mm and with the hollow you end up with closer to 4mm between thumb and finger. Also the surface is smooth and not pitted and rough as the picture makes it look. Prominent mold marks. I'll see if I can file it into a more usable shape.

No inherent flaws, just not what I'm looking for.
This is a decent pick. It's well made and the material is great. It's comfortable to hold, and it won't slip out of your hand with heavy strumming. The biggest disappointment for me was in the way it interacts with the string. As soon as it comes in contact with the string, even lightly, there is a high pitched click. It's annoying and it can be heard through everything I play. Also, the bevel from the flat of the pick down to the point is very rounded. This made it difficult to get a clear, sharp attack when I pluck the string. I do like to add texture to the front of a note by raking the edge of the pick before I pluck the string, but it's only stylistic and I don't want it all the time. This pick may be perfect for some players, but it's not for me.

Worth your attention.
If you want that Django sound and have the right strings, this is another large part of the equation-and well worth the price. Come to think of it....at this price people will probably find a way not to lose them.

Brilliant picks for Jazz and speed - consistent warm tone.
These are perfect for me for playing jazz. If you've not tried one, do yourself a favour. In real life, they're a lot sleeker than many images would suggest. The bevel is perfectly shaped and consistent around the whole edge giving an equal tone whatever angle you strike the string with. They lend themselves to fast, sweep picking and solo lines. I think they're probably a bit small for strumming duties.Tone is deep and warm, and even across all strings, and no thin sounding top E. It's a small pick so very accurate.Very durable - in fact they don't seem to mark at all, and even my Blue Chip Jazz 50 and 60 show small microabrasion at the edges.Brilliant picks. Great value. Boutique pick function with low price. Do yourself a favour and try some. I now prefer these to my Blue Chips.

I like them - make sure you get the correct ones.
OK - first things first, I've been confused before when buying the black Primetone picks. There are a few different sizes and shapes to choose from but It seems common practice for a seller to use the same picture for the whole range, and sometimes the description isn't clear. Add to this the fact that Amazon sometimes seems to group reviews together for different products in the same range and you have a recipe for confusion. I bought this --- 477P508 --- and I got what I expected three large, very thick(5mm) pointed plectrums. This is what I like, but the thickness won't suit everyone. I feel thick plectrums give a mellower sound but make the fast stuff a little trickier, but I'm sure that would depend on how you play

Great picks for studying
I can't elaborate much on it, but the format of these picks somehow makes you mindful of what you are doing (the thickness I suppose) but also helps you glide faster through the strings (the edge design I suppose), easing up the path on some exercises that seemed impossible before. A but "too mellow" sounding, when performing I go back to Big Stubby's 2.0, but these somehow (again, can't elaborate much) seem better for practicing.

Incorrect number of picks and used not new
Ordered what I thought was a refill pack of 36 picks and received a pack of 6 from the warehouse which had clearly been returned by someone else.
