The Big Rock: Inside the High-Stakes Hunt for the Elusive Million-Dollar Marlin

I am a weekend professional captain and occasional tournament fisherman.I usually hate fishing books, but this is a book about fishing written by an excellent author.It really made the Big Rock into a story about people and made me actually think about taking my boat to the east coast and having a go at the big rock.

This book conveys the excitement generated by this tournament and it feels as if I was there. You cannot put it down because you want to know the weight of the next fish going to the landing and what happens the next day. Tournament fishing is a little luck, but alot of preparation, teamwork and execution and this book conveys all those aspects. The 2019 epilogue was the icing on the cake!!

The Big Rock Book was the perfect summer read! I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about the history of The Big Rock and hearing detailed stories surrounding the 2018 tournament. Bethany’s writing instantly transported me back to summers in North Carolina!

Interesting, captivating true stories and an easy book to read. Loved the book. I got to see the 914 lb be brought in in 2019.

I don't fish and had never heard of The Big Rock tournament, but I loved this book!! I loved the way it's written focusing on the 2018 tournament, but having logical transitions built in to veer towards telling amazing stories from past tournaments and the characters involved. It reads like a mystery fiction thriller and I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen (so I read it fast). I guess especially people who fish, but everyone will enjoy this book.

Whether or not you love fishing this book is a must read. Learn about life on the Crystal Coast and the thrill of living, working and fishing on the coast. GREAT read. Prefect summer read at the pool or beach. Bethany is a great writer that makes the stories come alive. You can feel the thrill of the hunt and the anticipation with each page turn. My dad is an avid fisherman. This is the perfect Father’s Day gift!

Growing up on the coast everyone knows about this tournament and feels an attraction to Morehead, NC every year even if not interested in fishing. This book brings the excitement of the tournament to life. It explains the history of the tournament with many recent stories filtered in. I know little of fishing but love a great true story and this book was a great fit for me! Highly recommend

Growing up in Eastern NC I always knew about the Big Rock; however, this book told me more about the details and how the hunt for the big marlin is so exciting. The stories of the fishermen, of their skill and of the risks they took were fascinating and well-written by the author. A great read, even for non-fishermen!
