## Description

"I told you, I'll do it later." "I forgot to turn in the stupid application." "Could you drive me to school? I missed the bus again." "I can't walk the dog--I have too much homework!" If you're the parent of a "smart but scattered" teen, trying to help him or her grow into a self-sufficient, responsible adult may feel like a never-ending battle. Now you have an alternative to micromanaging, cajoling, or ineffective punishments. This positive guide provides a science-based program for promoting teens' independence by building their executive skills--the fundamental brain-based abilities needed to get organized, stay focused, and control impulses and emotions. Executive skills experts Drs. Richard Guare and Peg Dawson are joined by Colin Guare, a young adult who has successfully faced these issues himself. Learn step-by-step strategies to help your teen live up to his or her potential now and in the future--while making your relationship stronger. Helpful worksheets and forms can be downloaded and printed in a convenient 8 1/2" x 11" size. Winner (Third Place)--American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Award, Consumer Health Category See also the authors' Smart but Scattered, Second Edition (with a focus on 4- to 12-year-olds), Smart but Scattered--and Stalled (with a focus on emerging adults), and The Smart but Scattered Guide to Success (with a focus on adults).

Review: One of the BEST RESOURCES for parents of teenagers struggling w/ EF. - If you're a parent or educator who has lots of questions or seeks understanding of how to best understand/support these young men and women, then this is a book stuffed full of meaty, applicable, timely, research based, practical and appropriate answers and applications. ➡️ This is one of the BEST RESOURCES for identifying, understanding, and responding to teenagers with EF challenges! Not only might it help save your teenager's life but the nuggets of info found within (when applied) will help to save and strengthen the parent/child relationship and equip your teenager with skills they can use for life... long after you're done reminding them of everything they used to forget 😉
Review: Helpful for my 12 going on 13 yr old girl - This book is a great resource for middle school kid parents. My child is 7 th grade. I guess I could have started last year but we were in the midst of pandemic and most of schools were shut. So this year, Now that my daughter is back to school, I have a time to read and really focus on skills she needs. It helps identify my EXecutive function skills vs my teen. It is a great book to identify the problems and giving strategies as well. Highly recommend for parents who have no idea how to help teen w organizational problems

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Long and wordy but probably insightful

I wish I would’ve gotten some feedback on these books before I started reading it… It’s incredibly long and wordy but I can see that they are trying to get to some good points. I was just trying to figure out if it was better to read the kid book where the team back for a 12-year-old and I could not find any feedback anywhere I wish I would’ve gotten some feedback on these books before I started reading it… It’s incredibly long and wordy but I can see that they are trying to get to some good points.
