Great for beginners
I bought this as an upgrade to my student grade watercolours. So far, really satisfied with it. The colours are vibrant and easy to work with. The only downside for me is that the palette does not come with a black colour since I use a lot of black in my work but that depends I guess. The size is quite small since this is originally intended as a travel set. Therefore the space to mix colours is small and you would have to use a separate mixing palette if you prefer a lot of space to mix colours. The travel brush that comes with it is small as well and can only be used for detail work and does not hold much water. You definitely will have to carry a bigger brush if you're taking it outside. The pans do not sit well in place and keep on moving and completely come out of the palette when opening but that can be fixed with some glue. All in all, this is a great purchase for someone who is beginning with watercolours or is looking for an upgrade from student colours since this sits somewhere between and student grade and artist grade. The price is really reasonable as well. If you are someone who has not worked with Artist grade watercolours you will definitely not be disappointed.

An ideal watercolor starter set for beginners
Several years ago, I decided to follow some tutorials from my high school art book and take watercolors more seriously. I bought quality paper (Strathmore, cellulose 300 gsm; at the time, I wasn't aware of the difference between cotton and cellulose) and a decent watercolor set without compromising my finances. Good watercolors can be quite expensive. So, in December 2016, I ordered this sketch set that was on discount, and I have no regrets. I can proudly say that these were my first watercolors from a reputable brand, even though they are student/academy quality.- The box/presentation: The plastic box doesn't feel cheap; it's very sturdy. However, since the lid doesn't come off, it's sometimes difficult to clean the edge where the hinge of the mixing tray is. To address this, I carefully remove all the half pans and wash the entire box from time to time. It has a small and compact size. The closed box measures 13x6 cm.- Colors / Half-Pans: The colors seemed very good to me at that time, with excellent pigmentation. While they can't compare to professional watercolors, they were a great option for a beginner who wanted to enjoy learning the technique. Many purist watercolorists may disagree with the inclusion of white, but I found it useful for adding details and experimenting with pastel colors. The ability to experiment made it worthwhile to have in the set. The set includes two yellows, two reds, two blues, and two greens, each in warm and cool versions, plus three earth tones. This selection helped me learn how to mix colors to get the shades I wanted. Initially, seeing a palette of 48 colors was overwhelming, but this smaller set was more manageable. I would have preferred if they had included the pigment numbers on the side, but it only lists the color names. However, you can find this information on the official Winsor & Newton website.- Brush: I still have the brush that came with the set, but it's not for daily use. It serves the set's main purpose, which is to make sketches, but I usually painted on 9x12 inches paper (the size of the notebook I bought at the time), so I often used larger brushes. The round brush is of decent quality and good for making details.I'm very happy to have learned the basics of watercolor technique with this set.Below, I will share the pigments for this set, if it helps anyone:- Lemon Yellow Hue: PY175- Cadmium Yellow Hue: PY65, PY97- Cadmium Red Pale Hue: PR255, PY65- Alizarin Crimson Hue: PR206- Ultramarine: PB29- Intense Blue (Phthalo Blue): PB15- Viridian Hue: PG7- Sap Green: PB15, PG7, PY139- Yellow Ochre: PY42- Burnt Sienna: PR101- Burnt Umber: PBr7, PY42- Chinese White: PW5

Amazing!
I absolutely love this color palette and it is a phenomenal price for what you get. I'm able to fit more colors than it comes with, I have two brands I enjoy and this can fit the second brand as well. The person who mentioned using hot glue to keep the individual pieces in place is a genius, I don't like mine to move around so I used glue dots to keep them in place. At this point I have dropped it twice and it has managed to stay intact. The paintbrush is absolutely adorable and I love using it. The pigment is excellent and the colors are vibrant. I'm very new to watercolors and I have found it to be a very good first time set.

Fits in my pocket and in the palm of my hand.
I tried this small watercolour palette out the other day. It is easy to hold in your hand while you paint. The water cup is on the smaller side, but it is fine. The watercolour pans are removable which is nice because you can put whatever kind of pans you want in it. Oh, and on the plus side ( because this palette is white ), I removed the water bottle and set it aside and used the space where the water bottle is stored as an additional mixing space ! Also, the little brush that came with this palette is great for details ! Good value for the money !

So many excellent features for the artist on the go.
I got the field pocket kit before my vacation and I loved it. I stopped to draw or paint at every point where the family had to wait on something, and strangers kept coming over to see what I was doing. Here are my thoughts:* The flask seal was solid. I walked around with the kit in the big bag with all the family's needs and never lost a drop of water. I even drank from it at one point because I was really thirsty.* The paint brush is good quality. The bristles stayed together and the application of color was smooth. Exactly what you would expect from a mid-quality brush. But you must be careful when putting it back together to make sure you don't bend the bristles on accident.* The paints are rearrangeable. There is a small clip at the sponge end that, if you pop it open, gives you access to all 12 colors. If you remove the sponge from the kit, you can fit two more half pans in for a total of 14.* The sponge is stiff at first, but softer after a couple dunkings of water. Just make sure it's fully dry before you close up the case or the moisture could get to the paints.* The paints themselves are vibrant and easy to use and mix. They got a little gooey for me after a few minutes, but I was painting at the beach with 95% humidity (or rain, it rained a lot) and 95F (35C) temperatures throughout the week.* The mixing areas are useful and good sized considering the size of the kit. You have to position them just-so if you want to make a wash-level color so the paint won't run, but they are fine in whatever mostly-flat position for less watery mixes.* The cap of the kit turns into a reservoir for the flask contents. The cap connects to the kit itself through a sliding part at the top once it is open. This feature stopped me from accidentally knocking my water supply over several times.*The kit is a little smaller than my outstretched hand, which makes traveling with it wonderful. It also has a thumb ring on the back, but I didn't use that part.* The biggest con I have is the amount of moisture that is trapped in the sealed case after use. I brought paper towels with me and soaked up or wiped off everything I could before folding it again to chase after my family. By the time I got back to the hotel room, the paints that had been wet had stuck to the innermost folding mix pan and I had tap them loose and put them back in their pans.Ultimately, this case was amazing and I highly recommend it for beginners (like me) or advanced artists alike. The amount of features packed in this tiny case remind me of the old Transformers toys from when I was a kid. So long as your knowledge of color mixing is solid, this case will be just what you need.
