At about 60 dollars, I'd buy something more age appropriate. My 4 1/2 year old daughter liked it, but had to be guided very much. If I had to buy it, I'd wait until she was a bit older.

Q: I notice most pictures have the maze set on carpet. Would it work as well on carpet?

I hadn't tried it on carpet but I would think itd work just as fine as long as the carpet isn't super long. You can use the mouse just on the hardwood floor itself or a table top too. You don't have to use the maze board. I just didn't want to get any hair wrapped up in the wheels by using hit on the floor
