Eclectic mix of menus and occasions
This book is a delight. It’s absolutely packed with anecdotes and asides about a so many different meals. There are numerous photos and pictures throughout and there’s also a smattering of recipes from some of the menus. From a Lyons Corner House menu, to the last meal at a famous restaurant, Concorde, Titanic, concentration camps, Hampstead Communist Party inaugural dinner...the list is endless and the book is so much more than food. It looks at class, social divides, prejudice, rationing, social change and packs a huge amount into a tiny tome. I was engrossed from start to finish. Readable, informed, entertaining and a thoroughly brilliant read. A great addition to my shelves.
