4.99 – almost perfect!
This rack more than met my expectations. I have used it both on my 2004 Sequoia and my 2014 CX 5 for a two-person Hobie kayak, which is pretty heavy. Before the rack, it was practically impossible for my wife and I to get it up onto the Sequoia. With the rack, I can put it up by myself. The straps make it easy to slide, and I like being able to quickly undo the straps and toss it over the top of the kayak to tie it down. I bought an extra set of clamps and strap for the front roof rack (I would highly recommend this). Having both front and back clamps set narrower than the full width of the kayak keeps it from sliding forward or backward (before this rack one time my kayak slid off the roof, bounced off the hood of the Sequoia into the street when I came to a stop sign). For extra safety, I put a strap across the middle of the kayak.Being able to lower the rack to 45° makes it easier for me to lift the end of the kayak up onto the strap. And it is much more stable than having a little wife try to hold one end up. Being able to easily slide the clamps back and forth is also a benefit since they need to have a wider separation when you load the kayak and then a narrower separation to hold it in place.This could easily be a five star product except for me five stars means "perfect" and very few things, if any, in this world are perfect. I'd like to give it up 4.99.
