Keep in mind what this is.
If you are looking for a durable Network Cable Tester that you will be using regularly (for example you install network cable) this is not the tool you want to buy. This is a cheaply made tool, but thank God it it. Think of this like a tool from Harbor Freight, it is not going to be the highest quality, but if you are only going to use occasionally...then this is definitely the tool for you. The old saying applies here, "you get what you pay for." I do like that there are cheap tools out there like these. I do not want to spend a ton of money on tools that I will only use on rare occasions, and I am willing to accept the fact that they may break after using it a few times.

Helped me win an argument with my electrician
It turns out my electrician had never installed Cat 6 ethernet before and was faking his way through the whole thing. In that sense, this was one of the best $8 I've ever spent. I'm docking 1 star, though, because the little instruction sheet was bewildering. Don't bother reading it. Just watch some YouTube instructional videos, don't be afraid to experiment (it's just using a 9V battery, so you can't damage anything with it), and you'll be finding crossed wires in no time.

Great value economy tester.
Quick shipping and the item was well packaged by vendor.Great price for a good product - excellent value.Item worked well on CAT5e (STP/Shielded Twisted Pair and UTP/Un-shielded Twisted Pair), CAT6 and RJ11 cables. The tester included instructions that were clear, concise and adequate for intended purpose (though they did contain misspelled words).I am very satisfied and would recommend this product to check for continuity/correctly wired LAN or phone cables.NOTE: I broke the remote part of a Paladin Tools 1576 cable tester (a more expensive tool with additional features that I had used for many years). Interestingly the remote portion (CT468 remote) of this tool worked with the Paladin Tools 1576 main unit (an unexpected bonus).

Your money well spent.
Easy to use and inexpensive. I setup a router in a second house as an access point connected by an Ethernet cable. The existing cable was old and the unit identified a wiring error on two pins. Upon closer examination I discovered that both of these wires were corroded. I cut off the connector, installed a new one, and the unit reported a good circuit. I plugged in the router and it worked on the first attempt.

Junk.
I tested a wire on a pre-built house and was about to have a heart attack when this tester showed an open on 4 and 5. I re-crimped the wire and had no change. Re-crimped again, same thing. Then went on the other end and re-did the chuck. Same result. Moved onto another room, and saw 4 and 5 were disconnected again. Then a light bulb went off, and I tested a known-good patch cable. 4 and 5 showed disconnected. It was this junk tester the whole time.AVOID. Or at least test the tester first.

DO NOT BUY
Product looks fine until you throw a battery in it and it doesn't work at all. I ordered one and it did not work at all. Tried different batteries with no luck. So I got a new one shipped to me. The new one worked just fine for about 10 minutes then decided it didn't want to work anymore. Tried new batteries with that one as well. Very dissatisfied. There is better products out there than this one. Would not recommend to anybody. Such a waste of time doing the return and refunds on both products. Could've saved time had I ordered from a company with quality.

Exceptional tester
If you need to test network cables for any reason, this tester is money very well spent! We added network cable to two floors in our home. We bought bulk cable and pass thru connectors and made our own cable runs. We learned quickly the advantage of pass thru connectors and a good crimper (Klein: https://www.amazon.com/Pass-Thru-Reliable-Klein-Tools-VDV226-110/dp/B076MGPQZQ/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=cat6+crimper&qid=1577109276&sr=8-4). There is no substitute for the right tool for the job.Several times we dropped both parts of the tester from ladders, so 5 ft or more. This had no effect on their performance. They don't claim that it is "rugged" but it stood up to our carelessness very nicely. We found it very useful that the remote unit slid apart easily so we could test cable runs from one room to another very easily. Obviously if you're testing an uninstalled cable with both ends easily accessible the tester works fine also. The switch runs the tests at two different speeds. If the fast speed goes a little fast you can slow it down to more easily watch the matching lights illuminate during testing. It's simple, works exactly the way it should and it's durable. I would buy another one or recommend one to anyone with a network cable test requirement. It's an essential tool in our tool bags!

This is an absolutely terrible design
Normally cable testers would have a dongle that you would put on one end of a cable and the other end goes into the device. You press the test button, and the device tells you whether the cable is good or not. I have a few of these with different level of complexity and pricing, but they are all similar in function. This device is not like that. It has LED indicators on a dongle as well. When it tests, the lights light on the box as well as on the dongle. There is no indication of correctness, you have to observe the lights on both the device and the dongle and make sure that the pattern is the same. For example, the correct cable will blink, in sequence, 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 on both the device and the dongle, and if the brown pair is inverted, the device will be blinking 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 but the dongle will be 1-2-3-4-5-6-8-7.If you are just crimping a short cable, this is fine. If you are running a cable a long distance though you have to be in two places at once to observe the behavior. Or at least constantly walk between the two places, which is a major hassle. So into the dump bin this goes.

Indispensable

Checks all Cat cables
Works as described but better, this will test Cat3 to Cat7 either net cable. Also checks phone cable. Great quality for the price. I bought this to trace 30 either net cables unmarked in a home entertainment junction box going to every room twice. Good news at the same time it was checking the cable for damage. Simple and time saving

This tester helps me make money!
Don't listen to other reviewers about how it feels. They complain too much! What do you expect, it's a basic tool. This feels fine and definitely better quality than the grey and green looking testers that's available on Amazon. It works and does its job! Does NOT glitch like the grey and green looking one.

Does where it should, Engrish manual hilarious
Use this unit a lot to test cables after I make them. Always works great, self-explanatory to use. It comes with an instruction manual that is hilarious to read.

For Your Network Needs..!
Reasonably priced. May look cheap, but it works.I love this basic tester to assist in making sure you have your network wiring done correctly. Makes sure you have no crossed wiring and a proper signal from signal tester to receiver.
