An Excellent Spinoff for BOTW
It's difficult to write a precise title for this game because, as someone who loved the lore and backstory for Breath of the Wild, it took me now to warm up to some of my feelings for it.When I found out Age of Calamity was less of a fanservice game and more of a labor of love to do a proper spinoff, I bought it as soon as I could, for someone who JUST got their Switch and wanted to prime themselves again before jumping into BOTW (as a WiiU player). All I can say is the Switch is 5+ years old, it's a solid platform of being a bridge between 3DS players and console players, and the fact this game runs well both on and off dock, shows there was definite support for the title after reviewers were quick to bash the fidelity. The game runs smooth with only logical hiccups and sacrifices similar (and tolerated) to Pokémon Scarlet. For all the effects, characters, motion, and physics the game does well with data management and is a competent display of the talents with the developers. The plot is shockingly good for being a Dynasty Warriors spinoff. It's not some gripping victorian novel about the melodrama of Hyrule and our favorite oversized shirt wearing mute, but it's SHOCKINGLY good. There's lengthy cutscenes in the best way to describe it with full voice acting and dedicated assets beyond just using the in-game-level and the narrative expands (albeit minor) into the flavor text of every weapon and collectible-dump mission. This is Link at his finest and it really anchors down the original themes that Nintendo wanted with this Breath of the Wild saga, to bring Link into exploration and being a hero for everyone and there's a lot of wholesome stuff to check out in reading if you actually SLOW DOWN.The character variety is also top notch with Impa being respectfully a fan favorite for riding the line of ninja fantasy and exorcist like motifs, as an early no-spoiler example. As for mission variety it's a Dynasty Warriors game with little to no mixup beyond "kill, capture, collect". You NEED to like the source material or mindless gameplay loop enough to validate the purchase, plain and simple. The game performs well, the narrative is a standout, the game uses the new designs of LoZ to its maximal potential without any of the rpg guff that might turn someone away as well. Yup. No more being zapped more for wearing armor in a rainstorm and no weapon breaks. Look, it's (at this point) just a preference to fans and its nice to keep Link in top shape rather than on the backfoot in gameplay. All abilities are basically available from the start so feel free to freeze, stop, bomb, and magnetize your way to gory success. This isn't a review from someone bashing BotW but from someone that desires to play and revel in the best of what Nintendo has to offer in the new leaps they've done. Let's be real, it will never top Twilight Princess but they did bridge so many generations to one design and concept and its great to see. The game smooths this further into celebrating the strengths of BotW with a solid and valid AND CANON inclusion to the timeline. So embrace the seriousness of Link in his Hylian soldier armor or the hilarity to run around as a blonde caveman with a soup ladle.Just don't take the game too seriously, embrace the grind, and just enjoy the fact that it's basically the Halo Reach for Zelda fans. It will end in the dark, but the ride there is so so so fun.Happy Gaming!!!

Brilliant game and storyline, a must for BOTW players
Wonderful game! SPOILERS BELOWFirst, let me set expectations:1. It's not an open world game, so no exploration or anything that comes with that. Like no walking into stables and towns on your own.2. It's pretty heavy on hack n slash. Expect a lot of fighting and saving people. What you get:1. You get the whole story of the world before BOTW and during Calamity Ganon's take over2. You get to play as all main characters3. You get to play as a Divine Beast (this is tough but so good)4. You get new elemental monsters (bloody amazing!!)You get to see all the characters and Hyrule before Calamity Ganon, so you see the Citadel and the Castle in all it's glory before being destroyed. It's truly helps you connect with the BOTW world and it's charm so I would say 100% yes to the game if you love BOTW.
