Seriously well-constructed, works great & love the protective case
Don't be mislead by the extremely competitive price of this product, it performs toe-to-toe with some of the best "home" recording equipment out there! The construction of the Mic is really solid, the shock mount is essential and works great, and the whole selection of items comes in a first class protective case (for transport & protection in storage). For ideal audio recording, I do recommend purchasing a pop filter. I got the Auphonix 6-Inch Diameter Microphone Pop Filter. Double Mesh Screen for $15, really a minor additional expense and I would have purchased it regardless of the USB mic I would have purchased. It's just a critical product for anyone looking to create a high-quality audio recorder. This Marantz audio pro mic is the dope! I would recommend avoiding lesser known brands and sticking with this reliable brand. Audio quality is excellent. To avoid clicks, smacks and other undesired sounds follow the advice you can easily find online (stay hydrated, keep your distance from the mic, get a pop screen, and post process to optimize). NOTE that your best bet is to *avoid* the undesired sounds at the time of recording (don't assume you can post-process your way out of a crappy recording, hence recommendation to this mic and get a pop filter).I grew up with Marantz hi-fi stereo equipment (yes! that generation) .... 30 years later my dad still uses that same Marantz equipment on his home multi-deck stereo because it's first class and indestructible equipment. (My dad is a gifted musician and passionate consumer of music). I did some *serious* comparative analysis of audio recording equipment and am SO glad I purchased this!So glad to see that Marantz continues to put out first-rate equipment; I can't recommend this mic more strongly. Construction is impeccable, 16-bit converter, and priced for pro's and beginners alike ($53 for the 2000U at time of this review - I paid twice that and still considered it a great deal). Note I would recommend the 2000U version for anyone even vaguely serious about (a) generating a high-quality audio recording and (b) reducing post-processing time and effort.

USB mic, pro quality. No really though...
Have to admit I had my doubts, because I started making music on my computer in the early 2000's, and from my experience, most USB microphones just don't give you a quality sound. I have had to purchase phantom power and pre amps, and spend at least $200 on a mic alone. Plus I would have to add a list of effects, reverbs, and tweak to what I recorded to get those crisp, clean vocals you want to have on your tracks. I have been away from making music for almost 5 years, and decided it was time to get back to it. I bought this mic after hearing some good things and I'm very happy I did. This mic doesn't need any other assistance. Well I use a little effect, but it doesn't need much. I definitely don't take half the time I use to on cleaning up the vocal tracks. This mic does a lot of the work for me. Takes up less space, and when you are recording at home that's important! I never thought I would own a USB mic, seriously, they're a waste of money, something for kids just learning how to record music, right!? Lol... This is a very good mic, and for the price, nothing beats it. I highly recommend buying this.

Great mic, with one annoying flaw
This is a great mic for its price point, and it has served me well for years. Sound quality is excellent. I've bought extras for friends too because I've never seen better. There's one minor issue - the stand it comes on (which you don't have to use) tends to fall over because it's balanced badly. Annoying, but that's such a small flaw that it's not worth worrying too much about it.

Good for portable hobbyist applications, but get an XLR for everything else
Very delighted with this microphone (though I returned it after learning about XLR stuff). Despite the fact you're paying for both a microphone and an embedded preamp (to boost the signal to audible levels), both are really good for the price and there's not a lot of noise to be found.I would say you get the same frequency response as an MXL 770, they both feel warm). That said, there are a number of features I feel would benefit this mic. A gain control knob, along with a mute button, a direct monitor headphone jack would go a long way.In addition, it's a USB mic, and any USB mic will have the actual mic itself, along with a preamp built in. This means you're only partially paying for the mic unit, and the rest is going to the preamp. While it's not bad in this case, it's advisable to get a dedicated preamp/audio interface and get an XLR microphone (Marantz makes an XLR mic known as the MPM-1000 [without the 'U'] that you should look at) as it is far more modular and serviceable than a rigid USB mic.tl;dr: Microphone itself is good, but lacks features and its USB limits its future-proofing

Great entry level condenser microphone for recording and streaming.
Really looks and feels and like a pro microphone. As described by seller, it was recognized by Windows (10 64 bits in my case) upon connecting it (on a USB 2.0 port in my case). Volume of recording is not too high, since mic is not connected through a sound card, but directly to an USB Port, which means you, or at least I in my setting, there isn't how to adjust mic gain like it can be done with a mic connected through the sound card (Raltek HD Sound integrated on my motherboard). However, if you use Audacity, OBS or other similar recording software you can adjust mic gain as I did and you will get better volume results. This I have already tested. So far I'm very happy with my purchase and I consider this a great entry level condenser microphone for recording and streaming audio, without the need for additional hardware (like preamps) and cables to my desk.
