Q: Does the cross strap on the back come off - can I run this as a sling/bandoler with 1 strap?

the cross strap detaches at the front two buckles and at the sides of the rig. while the cross strap can be taken apart, the front coupling is a three prong male connector and the ends of the cross strap that attach to the sides of the rig are round swivel connectors. the rig leaves the sides exposed. the front storage area is the exact size to hold 4 AR-15 (30 round) magazines. this rig is good for paintball or light loads around the house. a true mil-spec or law enforcement rig will have thicker connection points and more rigid woven material. I personally only like these because you can mix and match the pieces. truth be told, for this particular rig, I wouldn't have bought it if I wasn't going to buy the rear bladder rig. this model is trying to be like a plate-carrier-rig which a lot of times will actually protect your front, sides, and back. if you aren't planning on spending the money to buy true mil-spec then your one other option is buying an industrial rigging harness.
