Battery operated, not rechargeable, and wireless.

Q: Can we purchase only the machine not the microphone?

Dear friends, karaoke machine can not be purchased separately, need to be purchased together with the microphone

Q: Does this have a record/playback function?

I believe it does but the unit I was sent did not work properly right out of the box. I found out the only way to get it serviced was to pay to send it back to the Philippines, ( no service locations in the US), at my expense. I contacted the the company, ( spoke to the owner), who would not send a replacement unit and offered no refund. Not a way to do business in America. I contacted Amazon who refunded my purchase price. I would buy the competition's product and stay away from Platinum.

Q: how much of a delay is microphone sound?

Never got to try mine...straight out of the box the microphone volumes would not adjust and the vocals could not be heard over the music. So I cannot give you an answer. My review fully describes the trouble I had with a brand new unit which the manufacturer was unwilling to relpace.
