Easy install & works well.
Ah, not much more to say. I'm confused by some of the less than stellar reviews. It was really easy to install and appears very, very solid. Straps were long, but it's not hard to cut them to a custom length and tie a loop in them.

Pretty remarkable unit given the price. Works well.
I have a 14.5 FT double kayak. I use this hoist to store my Kayak in my small patio area so that the kayak is completely out of the way. Its a simple unit, seems sturdy enough & works well. Kayak stays in place secure. It will be interesting to see how it stands up after a lot of use. It is a very cheap unit for all that it is and does. It is a little difficult to hoist the Kayak as the kayak is heavy and the hoist doesn't really provide any leverage assistance, however, I can do it by myself. The only issue that I have with it is that the straps are too long so the Kayak ends up hanging way too low, kind of defeats the purpose. I want the Kayak to be tucked up real tight with minimal hang - this one hangs down almost a foot more that I would like because the straps are too long. when I have time, this is something that I will fix but having the straps cut.

Quick, easy, effective
I used this hoist as parts for a kayak lift for on-top of my mini van. I'm 5'2" and go kayak with my 8 yo son so getting a 75# tandum on and off the van was impossible for us. I've rigged it as a mobile lift and it works great. The hardware is sturdy and the pulley with the break is great.

What a hugely disappointing purchase.
A big fat ouch on this one...First issue: I was installing the brackets into some very old ceiling joists using a ratchet wrench. Perhaps I should have drilled my pilot holes larger, but the lag bolt that came with it snapped in two. I went to my local Ace hardware and purchase some better quality bolts.Second issues: I am used to these sort of things coming with bad instructions, but these top the list of dreadful. I never would have figured out how to thread the rope through the pulleys without the YouTube video I found showing how to do it. The first step in the instructions was totally wrong, and they turned into real gibberish after that. Maybe, just maybe someone could tell from the diagram, but it was not me and I classify myself as smarter than the average bear.Third issue: The straps that come with the unit are not adjustable. I wanted to install this in a garage with a ceiling about 9/12 feet off the deck. This system will leave it hanging about 4.. 4 1/2 feet from the floor. There is no real gain in storage here. What a hugely disappointing purchase.

Good concept, shoddy hardware
I bought the Attwood hoist system after an extensive internet review (including one warning that the screws provided are not sufficient). It is probably the best "complete" system out there, but find the YouTube video showing how to set it up (I believe the video may be for a competitor's product) - the written directions are impossible to follow. And purchase your own woodscrews: one of the screws they sent sheared when I was screwing it in (despite a pilot hole) and another sheared when I tried to hoist my canoe. I don't mind the cost of 8 lag bolts but don't appreciate having to make an unplanned trip to the hardware store or nearly bouncing my canoe off of the garage floor.

Should have listened to the negative reviews.
Unfortunately for me I ignored other negative reviews when I ordered 2 of these. As others mentioned, the lag screws are cheap and broke off during installation even with pre drilled holes. The rope is frayed right out of the box and the nylon straps are so long you have to either sew them shorter or buy different straps. So far the only good thing about it is the brackets....since you have to replace the straps/screws/rope anyway you might as well save yourself some money and buy all the parts at the hardware store and make your own. My plan was to use this hoist system to store my kayaks overhead in my garage...there's no way I would trust the cheap parts that come with this package to do that. Also, as other reviewers mentioned the directions are terrible. I had to look up video's on youtube to figure out how to thread the ropes through the pulleys. Save your self some time and frustration and buy something else.

Kayak Hoist saves space & works well!
Easy to install and use! The brake on the hoist can be a little challenging at first, but it works quite well!Install instructions suggest certain spacing between the pulleys for use with a boat (using the straps provided). I would suggest putting the pulleys just a little closer together at install, since most boats have a decent curve to the hull.

Straightforward installation
I've had this up and working for a month or so and it all works as advertised. It wasn't difficult to put up at all, and I used the hardware as supplied. The hardest part was working out the distances between the 2 sling straps so they sat on my kayak at the right places. I did add a couple of my own straps between the 2 slings to stop any possibility of them sliding apart, but that may be overkill on my part as the slings seem pretty sturdy.Fenagling the ropes takes a few minutes to understand, as they run independently of each other on their pulley's. Its easy to hoist up just one end if you're not paying attention... Its also worth spending a minute understanding how the rope lock works, and how to release it when the weight of the kayak is on it. Not difficult, but there is a 'sweet-spot' and it works like a charm.

Buen artículo, muy funcional.
Excelente accesorio. La calidad de la cuerda no es la mejor, pero soporta bien la carga y aunque supongo tendré que remplazarla mas adelante, creo que vale la pena por su precio.
