Was easy to use and worth the money
I had there old model for awhile and works great till the plastic tabs ran out and had to search for a new one. I will say I tried one other button repair gun with one needle insert but doesn't work till I purchased this one. Just used this item today and at first was curious on loading the plastic tabs to the item, then I see that you have to push in till you feel it lock , then it's ready to use. I was used to just push down with my fingers the cuff of the shirt with the button that came off and hold it down while pressing the button gun but I remembered seeing the ad for this item showing that you can use the protective cap as a base instead of using your fingers to hold the collar. Great item for a quick fix!

Not good
Bought this thing years ago and the minute that I unpacked it to use it and I follow the instructions to the letter -it did nothing.I had a button pop off my pants, went to go to fix it, and got this thing out .Well, it sure as heck didn’t work . Wound up poking my fingers with those needles . You have to use a thimble.- which is odd because it’s advertised as super simple - on-the -go kind of thing but yea , you are out on the road on a trip and uh oh “ where did I put my thimble ?” It is touted as this real simple thing - just snap in and fix your pants right away or shirt or whatever but no this thing doesn’t work. I think the previous generation worked OK but this thing is GARRRRR BAGE …The thing doesn’t properly put the plastic fastener through the holes . I literally could’ve fixed my pants faster with a needle and thread rather than this piece of garbage. I COULD HAVE , in the amount of time wasted on this thing, dug up my sewing kit or went to the drug store and got a kit faster than the amount of time wasted on this thing. This thing is now bits of plastic that are broken from being smashed by being thrown violently against the garage floor by me.

Stock up on fasteners b4 they design a "new & improved" model!
Works fine--Just like my original Buttoneer did, but could no longer get fasteners for it. Only 4 stars because I'm really ticked off that I had to buy a new one. Does this mean they are going to redesign it every few years so you can't find fasteners for the previous model so you have to buy the "new and improved" model? They could design a new model but still make fasteners for the old model available! Makes me really angry!! Suggest you stock up on fasteners now.5/8/25 A revision of my above review: This buttoneer is okay--but not as easy to use as the original. Also it's not as small and compact as the original. But I guess we're stuck with it since we can't get refill fasteners for the original!

This is a Godsend!
I feel in love with the Buttoneer 25 years ago when my daughter's were taking dance class as children. I used this to attach bows and other items to costumes, repair tips and tears when they were on stage, etc. It works for just about everything. I was unable to find the tacks for my old one, so I was unable to use it for years and I missed it more than anything. I was so happy to see this new unit online again! I currently decorate ballet tutus and this little baby once again did not disappoint!! Every item attached to the tutu has to be tacked on, but still removable so the underskirt can be reused for different performances and these went on smoothly and easily, and are holding the appliques securely. This little gem is a true time saver!!

Not as good as the original.
This product replaced the original Buttoneer. The fasteners are not compatible with each other and finding fasteners for the original is difficult. The "New" design is cheaply made and I don't expect it to last. It does work if you can get it to fasten without the push pins popping out of the sleeves instead of pushing the fasteners through the cloth. This happened on several of the buttons I was trying to attach. My original never did this.I will say however, the fasteners do appear to be a bit thicker and I expect them to hold better than the originals. If I could find fasteners for the original I would probably chuck the new one.

Buttoneer is garbage
This tool is absolutely useless! While trying to replace a button on a typical button down cotton/polyester shirt, the needles have to almost be forced into the button. When the trigger is pulled, the fastener jams inside the needles. i tried this about 5 times before I gave up.

Function
I had the earlier T shaped tool and it would not work on my heavy denim shirt, the pistol version worked way better

The old design wasn't broken, and this new design fixes nothing -- HARD TO USE!
Years ago, I had the old model blue Buttoneer, and I used it constantly. My brother lived in a group home, where the overworked staff had no time to sew on buttons. Once a month, I'd go over there and ask the staff to bring me the clothing of all 5 residents. I'd bring over my mom's tin of assorted buttons, and my faithful Buttoneer, and I'd spend the day reaffixing buttons to all the residents' clothing. (Mostly my brother's -- he loved to pull buttons off his clothes.) I effortlessly reattached hundreds of buttons.I lost the old Buttoneer in an apartment fire, and decided to treat myself to a new one. Well, the new model is horribly clumsy to use. There's an extra step involving a sort of plastic thimble, which doesn't really work to hold the button against the garment. You really need 3 hands -- 2 to hold the thimble in place, and 1 to fire the Buttoneer, which requires a lot of pressure to engage the firing mechanism.I had 3 failed attempts to attach a button using the microscopically tiny print instructions, before I pulled up a YouTube video. The video wasn't much help, but after a few more wasted attachment attempts, I finally managed to put my button on my shirt. The only thing I like about this new contraption is the built-in compartment to hold the strips of plastic button attachments. Otherwise, if you can manage to find the old blue model Buttoneer, buy that instead of this new one. The company took a simple and reliable tool, and redesigned it so it was almost unusable.
