substandard but pleasant
Our children thoroughly enjoyed this movie, however, as a parent, it was not very acceptable for their age group. There were *VULGAR* scenes in this movie and it made my stomach absolutely turn. I was so DISGUSTED with this movie that I developed big anorexia energy (BAE for short, look it up). BAE is the most complex version of anorexia anyone can develop, imagine walking into a field of sunflowers but the sunflowers are legos that you step on multiple times without any PPE. If you don't understand that, imagine having a syntax error in the most obvious of places and missing it after rereading it 50 times. It's like anorexia but it's not medically recognized (Self diagnosed.) I have been living with this disease for 12 years now, ever since the urination scene, that really grinded my gears you pp directors. And not even in the good way like my 70 year old husband with erectile dysfunction and an eating disorder. Both E.D.'s (hehe). He also suffers from BAE just as I do. Actually, I met him because we were both at a support group for BAE because of 2007's hit feature "Surf's Up" featuring Ben Key who played the attractive penguin. Overall, it was a pretty alright movie, my only complaints are that it gave me a life long medical disease, although, not medically recognized, but 7/10. The part that we really liked though was that the cock won. Heheheheh.

Amazing
I have watched this movie probably more than anyone else and it never gets me tired. I first saw it when i was 7 or 8 and it is still my favorite movie today. It is so chill and relaxing and doesn't have some complicated plot. I love this movie because of the message that winning is not everything in life and you should always stick with those who are going to good for you (AKA not Reggie). Anyways, ive watched this movie over 200 times and i could watch it many more because of the story of Cody and Geek, i love this movie and i think nothing will ever top it!

Surf's Up... the water is fine!
My husband and I love this movie. We have watched it numerous times now and we really like the animation, the music and the script of this creative animated movie about surfing penguins. It is fun, filled with energy and keeps my attention every time I watch it, even after a lot of views. Who would have thought a cartoon about a teenage penguin named "Cody" as he travels from Antarctica to the tropics to compete in a surfing competition could be so captivating?I remember the first time we watched this animated movie; I thought it would be a complete waste of my time and pointless on top of it. However, after having watched this movie more than several times, I find it to be uplifting and I notice something different every time I watch it. I like that it is upbeat without being patronizing and motivational without being gushy. It really is one of my favorite animated films I enjoy over and over again. I especially love the interaction between Cody and Geek as well as the antics of Chicken Joe. If you haven't seen this film yet, what are you waiting for?

This movie is EPIC!
i don't even know where to begin... i'm a 25 year old guy from nyc and all i can say is... the animated cartoon movie has touched me and my life!if you are buying this movie for your kids or for any child then you're making a great choice!!! this movie is not only stunning and beautiful but it had an awesome message behind it! the message is; life isn't always about winning and getting wrapped up in the mainstream propaganda of things. the true winners and the ones that have the best time doing what they enjoy doing and friends mean more then just some crappy trophys or awards...yeah, i know the way our society people don't think this way anymore. everyone wants to win, everyone needs to be number one... we live in a Viagra culture... everything must be better/best/or number one for most Americans... this is the way you've all been programmed and most people truly waste their lives on this stuff...this movie is a great look at a deeper meaning of life then just running the normal rat race that everyone else is caught it... it's a very chill and laid back look into the idea of just enjoying life for what it is!i can't say anything bad about this movie.. it's great!!!i've owned it on both dvd and blu-ray... both great!!!parents, watch this movie with your children... it's sure you make you feel like a kid again and feel good!!

Shia LaBeouf's best performance, and Jeff Bridges nails an aging surfer dude -- AGAIN!
I think that Dreamworks' "Surf's Up" and Pixar's "Finding Nemo" are two of the best animated children's movies of the last 15 years. (Of course, there are several other *GREAT* animated films that aren't exclusively for -- or even oriented toward -- children.) The supporting characters are voiced by some excellent modern-day comedians (incl. always adorkable Zooey Deschanel), and Shia LaBeouf exudes just the right level of (largely unfounded) cock-sureness. But is the rekindling of Jeff Bridges' legendary and aging character of "The Dude" that adds most of the heart and soul to the proceedings. If you're a fan of the latter, don't miss this one.

Good movie, not cliche
This movie caught my attention one day when it came on after something I was watching on Cartoon Network. Immediately I was cracking up laughing (I'm in my 20s). I think the humor is great, it sounds raw and unscripted at times, which I really like. Shia LaBeouf is a great choice because he does a great job of conveying the attitude and emotions of the character really well.As far as the plot goes, at the beginning it heads towards being a fairly cliche movie there the underdog main character comes up from behind and takes the victory, but I like that they didn't do that with this. I think it's a much more bold statement to show that he is concerned about others before himself.Overall, I know the movie is aimed for kids, but I loved it!

Adorable movie
As the heading says. I enjoyed this film as a fun family film. It's not big of very theatrical like many Disney / Pixar animated films but a simple adventure while following fun characters.

Kids' movie made by surfer dudes.
This is the surfer's equivalent of Cars. A kids' movie which appears to be made by dyed in the wool surf enthusiasts. The film follows the adventures of an ambitious young penguin who is talent spotted to compete in a prestigious competition on an exotic island. Shot in a 'mockumentary' style it may be tough going for younger children. Certainly my 4 year-old's attention quickly wandered although my 8 year-old has since revisited the film and appeared to enjoy it.The hero penguin Cody is following the footsteps of his childhood hero Big Z and the competition is a memorial to Z who apparently died competing on this shore. He is up against established champ and all round bad guy 'Tank' Evans, a penguin who likes to surf dirty and is obsessed by the trophy. He befriends a stoner chicken and a cute penguin lifeguard and proceeds to humiliate himself in the first stage of the competition. Cody takes himself off into the jungle to reflect on his woes and befriends a mysterious hermit-like penguin who eventually teaches him how to surf. This penguin turns out to be Big Z who realised he was losing his edge and faked his death so that he could go out on a high. Of course he brings Cody up to a standard where he can compete against Tank and Cody returns to the competition although the outcome isn't quite what you'd expect. The surfing scenes are lovingly shot and look pretty impressive. The film takes a pop at agents and commercialism and many of the jokes fly way above a child's head. The film is well voiced and animated and there is an engaging storyline. For a teenager or an adult, the documentary style adds to the humour. For a child it slows down the action and makes the film more difficult to understand. I liked it but if you're looking to entertain very young children then look elsewhere.

Very underrated animated film, one of the funniest movies
Very underrated animated film, one of the funniest movies I've ever seen & whilst the idea of a Penguin surfing may seem a bit ridiculous & childish, well this movie doesn't half pull it off well. It is made in sort of a mockumentary style, similar to Modern Family or the Office. Great movie for adults & kids, with a positive uplifting story & lots of funny bits in between.
