The Long Struggle to End the British Slave Trade
William Wilberforce is the name most associated with this struggle but Thomas Clarkson did much of the arduous leg work to bring the necessary precise documentation necessary to build the popular support and the convincing of the two houses of the English Legislature.

For anyone interested in the history of African slavery and its abolition, this book is a must: very clear and informative, and written by the abolitionist pioneer who supplied William Wilberforce with information and thus brought about an end to the slave trade.

Value for money
I have read some very insulting reviews of such products as these, most of them calling attention to pages being short or margins cutting into text, claiming that they are a scam. Let's look at that. If you were looking to buy a first rate original copy of these books, no margin notes, foxing, nibbles on corners, or, beaten up covers, etc, you would have to spend a lot of money. This one cost me very little, and although there are some extended margins plus one half page missing, I am more than happy with it. Most of the missing letters my brain can complete and the half page was not crucial to the narrative. The author actually tells this convoluted story very clearly and concisely, which is unusual for an author of his age. It also gives one more of the back story than you will find in most modern tellings of it and this underlines that Mr Wilberforce was not alone. What it also demonstrates is that many towns or cities throughout the country sent petitions against the slave trade in to Parliament, whilst others had their own committees organising protests and public meetings. No complaints from me.
