Hard to put it down....
Complex story line, well written. Rather lengthy at times but worth sticking with it.

Yes the here's a free book, we really hope you like it, but at least review it. Have really liked the Ameritocracy books, but only 3 out of those so far, there are now 5 or 6 out of this series, see goodreads/amazon for full listing of books. Did this review back April 2017 but ended up being one of my owned ones so had to delete and redo review.Series List: An Alex Vane Media ThrillerThe Cutline Book 0 {0.5}) - The Anonymous Source 1 - The Inverted Pyramid 2 - The Mockingbird Drive 3The Alex Vane Media Thrillers: Books 1-3The start, definitely not the finish. {0.5}, 1 Just like all good series, goes deeper and more involved.Post 911 the reporter wants to break in to TV news, and just might with the scoop of a lifetime, which his editor buries, his source turns up dead, and there is a media conspiracy that could cost him his life. Is help from a professor, an internet genius, a billionaire's sex widow, and a washed up sports reporter, enough to survive discovering a $500-million secret that could derail the largest media merger in history? What does it all have to do with 9-11? 2 has Alex living stably with a massage therapist and co-managing a website investigating the media, but once again a breaking story that was supposed to be about low level political Washington corruption leads to probably vaster conspiracy, one that could lead to and affect the upcoming 2004 presidential election. Everything could be connected, but to find out they have to untangle a web, which includes the death of his parents seven years earlier as well as figure out who is pulling the strings of the investigation and the election. This trilogy has 4; there is a 0/prequel.

Full of the unexpected
This book is one rollercoaster ride after another. The characters, even the deranged ones, are amazing. The pages won't turn or scroll fast enough as you are led from one fiasco to another as this story unfolds in unexpected ways. Wonderful story, wonderful characters! This book leaves you with a lot to ponder about our political world.

Here I go again!
Another author that has me hooked on the entire Alex Vane series after reading (for free…thank you BookBub!)) the second book in the series, A. C. Fuller keeps you engrossed with every word, every emotion, and every dangerous situation. Here’s hoping the current inflation rate hasn’t affected e-book prices on Amazon!

Book that made me break my pledge.
This book has it all: good writing, a weaving plot that doesn't confuse, but keeps you wondering, and strong characters. I have a standing rule that I do not, will not buy a book in a series in order to find out what happened in the previous book in a series.. Could not help it, I bought this 2nd the series for that very reason. This book features a journalist with ideals but keeps being fed clues that could lead to a murderer and a scoop that will rock the nation. The development of the various characters is crucial to the plot and is well done without the usual dozing off I get when this is done. It has murder, ,love, politics, progression of tech in the world of newspapers versus instant news via the internet in its early days. Fast paced, it is not a "30 minute book" like so many these days, I spent some time on it but binged so I read the first two books in less than two days. Luckily I am a fast reader. This second book "The Inverted Pyramid" does wrap up the first one and is written so that it could stand alone. I put Fuller up there with Baldacci.

Alex Vane and his partner journalists James and Lance are investigating what would turn out to be the biggest lead of their journalist careers and gives Alex more info on who he is and his past than he probably ever wanted to know.
Why does it seem like Alex and his partners Lance and James at their internet venture News Scoop seem to get themselves into legal and physical peril in every story they run? It's because they'll stop at nothing to get a story than is "mostly" true. Alex has a secret source who he hasn't heard from in a couple of years that contacts him by cell phone out of the blue. It's about a man named Bice who Alex helped ruin because he was dishonest. The story picks up where the old article ended and the implications of political sabotage, treachery and treason are abound. The whole time Alex is chasing leads he feels someone is following him and he's right! Bice is tracking his every move for personal reasons. Alex will come to know the true reason for his parents tragic death in a car crash just blocks from their own home. Someone had an agenda and Alex starts to realize that it is Bice who is both secret source and foe. Enter Greta Alex's girlfriend with whom he lives but has made no real commitment to. Alex loves her and Greta loves him but she has a secret she needs to tell Alex but doesn't know how or when to tell him. Non stop newspaper worthy action with twists and turns that leave you reading as fast as you can to discover the truth. I highly recommend this author!

More Errors Than Book 1
Another in this series I really enjoyed. Although in book 1 I only spotted one mistake, whereas there are more in this one, which is a little disappointing. Not enough for me to pack it in, however.I found myself pretty baffled right at the beginning when Sarin made an agreement to meet someone, then on the next page decided he'd stay where he was briefly, "then go straight home" I thought he was heading to Battery Park so no idea why this was written. There were odd words dropped from sentences, as in 'he'd taken it in stride' then he writes brick-and-mortar and it's usually bricks and complementary not complimentary. I did make a note, too, that the word dissonance was getting a little overused and that venetian needs to be capitalised and a couple of questions lost their punctuation.I liked the passage about a parent losing a child.....sad but very thought-provoking and also the statistical mention when sportsmen have cheated.....ruined the whole idea, as he said. A real shame. It was nice to meet Alex and the gang of people around him once again. I enjoyed the friendship between Camila and Greta as well. The ending left me sniffing loudly and I am looking forward to reading the next in this series. Nice too that he dedicated the book to his pal that helped him on it.I do like his covers as well, with the instalment number recorded on the little running man. Hope he retains those.

abandoned at 25%
On paper this should be right up my street (worked in IT for over 20 years, interested in the effect of the loss of print news and the rise of unsubstantiated online content etc.) - but I just can't get into it and am giving up at 25% I'm afraid. The main problem is I am not bonding with the 3 main (ish) characters (Alex and his 2 mates). They just come across as immature, pretentious and self-absorbed. Honestly can't find a redeeming feature in any of them - and the female characters that are now in play are much the same.Unfortunately, no matter how good a plot may be, if the characters are irritating then it's hard to carry on.

Introduction to Alex Vane?
The book is set in the recent past in the infancy of the technologies we utilise every day and many of which dominate our time/attention/financial resources. A thread of the story is a hint toward the war cry of 2018 - fake news. It was a little heavy on the preaching about technology versus human interaction for me and the characterisation suffered for it in my opinion but it's not really off point, just a bit shoe horned in. Apart from that the book was full of action and we have a glimpse back to a time in recent history but because of the pace of change the world has experienced we may have forgotten this stage. Enjoyable and I wonder what else lies in store for Alex Vane

Fair to middling
Having really enjoyed my free copy of book 1 in the series I was happy to pay to read the next Alex Vane thriller, now I'm not so happy. The book was okay, but not as good as the first one. There wasn't enough of a believable storyline to keep the pages turning. It became a bit of a slog which was disappointing. I had wanted to find out more about the characters but by the time this story finished I couldn't really care.

Well written
I have to say that this was well written and also well thought out, taking care to appreciate the emotional impact of crime that is often ignored in thrillers. The problem that I have is that I couldn't identify with any of the characters. All of them, even in their periods of deep emotional searching, appeared immature and self-absorbed. Maybe there are people out there who are like that, but not many that I know!
