a nice addition
I bought the Breeo firepit and thought I'd treat myself to the SearPlate and while we have only used it once we liked it. We will make a few changes based on trial and error but were very pleased with our first attempt. I'd suggest watching a few videos on its use which really helped. The seasoning process was very easy. We are sure we will get a lot of use out of it this summer.

Well made. Fantastic A++ customer support
I had the impression that the handles would lock the plate in place when folded down. However I contacted customer service who explained that it was designed to be able to level itself in the event that the fire ring is on a non level surface. For that reason this does not lock in place. Seasoning oils are recommended for their high smoke point temperatures.

Interesting challenge to cook with
So to start with things I really liked, nice and heavy weight and sturdy. Provides a good amount of surface area for cooking. Its a really solid thick piece of metal, and the handle assembly seems really well constructed. The connection to the fire pit is a bit odd, its 3 angled ribs. So it doesn't definitively "click" in place as it were, initially I thought that would cause a lot of problems, but it does seem to be "ok" It does mean you have to fiddle with it a bit to get it flat; but the general weight of the plate seems to help it stay put once you get it in place well. I imagine this can also help you adjust for slightly uneven ground. And I love the fact that you can take it off as opposed to previous generations where the whole fire pit either had or didn't the sear plate. So my first run with it I apparently had it a bit too hot, as we had a fair bit of charcoal with our chicken skewers. But I was really concerned with getting the meat sufficiently cooked, so could be I just left it on too long also. Looking forward to working to fine tune the process! It definitely takes some time because you need to get a full fire going, then let it burn down. so you can start cooking. Only time will tell how often this gets used, I fantasize about weekly grilling out on it, but in reality likely only monthly or less depending on the time of year!

Sharp edges.
Looks like a nice cook surface, but I am disappointed with the sharp edges and also the sharp edges of the fire pit and the lid,. Given the weight of the component parts, it will be easy for a guest to injure themselves. Especially if someone walks into the lid while it is set to the side. There were also other quality issues noted with the kettle hook and the lid. A friend bought the outpost grill, and had an initial warranty claim due to the stand rod not fitting into the fire pit receiver. Given the price range of the product, I expected a better finish, i.e. grinding of sharp edges and a bit better quality control. I note that the edges on the outpost grill have carefully grinded edges, so why could this also have been done to the most dangerous edges such as the edge of the fire pit rim and lid??? Given all the welding soot on my fire pit, I think maybe there are some fabrication backlogs and rushing product out the door.
