The Princeton Guide to Ecology

A Wonderful Overview
This is beautifully written book. It is informative of relevant ecological concepts and quandaries and tells them in a very readable manner, which is something I feel many texts lack. The book is several years old, but at my time of writing this review, there are no issues concerning outdated information to my knowledge. It may not be for those who are completely oblivious to ecology, but those with a basic understanding of the key concepts will find them greatly enforced and expanded upon from this text. I would recommend it to undergraduate students who enjoy ecology very much, or for graduate students who need a refresher on some of the more important parts of ecology. Also, compared to other ecology texts, this one is very economical. If you want to learn ecology from a very good yet inexpensive text, look no further than The Princeton Guide to Ecology!

The book excels in providing a detailed enough overview of nearly every major topic in ecology so that areas you are unfamiliar with can be easily understood and your memory refreshed or updated
The book chapters are just the right length, concise yet in-depth enough to explore topics well. Obviously, the overview and scope of the book are not meant to be detailed guides to any one topic, indeed each of the sub-chapters can and do have multiple books published about them. The book excels in providing a detailed enough overview of nearly every major topic in ecology so that areas you are unfamiliar with can be easily understood and your memory refreshed or updated. Totally recommend as a very helpful reference and study guide!

Great book- much better than our required grad school ecology text
This book is wonderful- I found it much more readable and enjoyable than the required Begon et al. textbook we were required to use for my graduate school Ecology class. This book is great in part because each chapter is written by an expert in the field, and is clear and well laid out. I found this book upon the recommendation of a professor in my department when preparing for our qualifying exams (which I passed with flying colors), and have lent it to the new students in our department studying for their exams this April.Highly recommended for a class textbook, personal reference, and an enjoyable ecological read (seriously!). Love it!

Excellent one-stop resource for any graduate student in ecology!
I used the relevant chapters of this as my primary means of studying for my comprehensive exam for my dissertation. Excellent, contemporary summaries of most (if not all) aspects of ecology. Chapters are all well-written (great job editors!) and concise, with relevant citations that are useful for diving into more detail as needed.
