It works, but should come with instructions
If you're having problems with staples not stapling all the way through or staples falling out, turn the stapler over and push the silver circular knob on the bottom of the stapler, and as you do this, the rectangular swivel up above will lift up. Turn the rectangular piece so that the two slits that are distanced wider are on the outside or front of the stapler. Then, try stapling your items again. It works! It really works. I feel like the stapler should be put in this default position before it is mailed to the consumer AND that the stapler should come with an instruction book to give consumers some information about this. This company would probably have far less returns and complaints if they simply included a user manual, but you live and you learn.

Update - very impressed!
This is an update to the review below. I was contacted by the seller who said they had improved their quality control and would like to send me a replacement stapler. I have to say - I love my new stapler! It it is smooth and easy to operate, it stays latched, and it seems like it will be sturdy and last a long time. It's a great product, especially for the cost.I'm extremely pleased with customer service and that they take pride in their product and wanted to ensure I was a satisfied customer. They are a model for how to do business -- great product combined with excellent customer service!______________________________Original review:I purchased this for use as a teacher. I didn't need to use it immediately, so it sat in the box for a bit. When I took it out and used it, I noticed a few problems. First, the top does not stay latched. This means that the staples will fall out easily. Second, it did not come with instructions. Now, you might think "Hey, it's a stapler - aim and push." I initially tried that and my stapled areas were coming out a mess. This is because there is this stopper (my word for it) that you can set - I assume so all your staples will be at the same distance from the edge. You can measure in inches or centimeters. It was towards the front and was preventing everything from working properly. When it is towards the front of the stapler, it prevents the stapler from closing all the way and your staples won't close (or even go through the papers all the way). Once I figured this out and slid it back, it worked better. It still just felt like it's grinding and not smooth. But it would work okay, so I figured for the money it was fine.Today, I decided to recycle the packaging and, when I double checked that nothing was in the box, a pin came tumbling out. When I slid it back into the stapler, it won't stay and simply falls out. It is part of the swivel mechanism for the top cover - maybe this is why it opens and the staples fall out - but when I put the pin in, it doesn't help. The reason I think the top doesn't stay closed seems to be more about the front end where the staples come out. I think the part that catches and latches needs to be flared out a bit more. However, I do think the pin will impact long-term stability. It's much too late for me to return. I will try to reach out to the company and update this review.

Listen to the reviews, this stables horribly!
So I was looking for a long reach stabler for stabling mini comics. I saw this and the reception was very mixed. Some people had good experiences but also several people had negative experiences. I chose to take a chance and bought this thing and now I can see what the negative reviews meant. The stabler is off center which is why the stables don't bend down properly, they bend in every which way as the part where the stables is pushed into is what bends it but since the top part is off center it won't. I tried to bend the stabler to be inline with the bending part but it won't, and even if I tried to keep it in place so that the stables bend properly, it still doesn't bend enough to stay secure. Please, listen to the reviews and get a different long reach stabler as this one is trash.

DO NOT BUY it is total junk
I tried with the staples they sent with the stapler.......they would not curl and close under the papers.I was stapling 4 sheets of paper. Then I tried with the good Swing-line brand of staples (that work on my regular stapler) and they would not close under the papers either. So it is not the staples, but the way the stapler "closes" the staple. It is almost like the staple pierces the paper but then just flops over under the papers...so there is no way if joining the papers together.Other staplers will pierce the paper and then under the papers will curl under so they hold the papers firmly together. The pressure of standing and pressing down or sitting at the desk and pressing down does not make any difference. NOTHING will make these staples close properly thus making this worthless.

Amazingly bad
One thing I love about living in the world in 2023 is that life is constantly surprising. For example, before I purchased this stapler, I thought we pretty much had the concept and mechanics of stapling figured out. When my new stapler arrived I was amazed because while it had the appearance of a standard stapler, it did not have the functions of one. I think I would have had more luck if I had whittled my own stapler out of a scrap of wood from the forest. Yes, staples could be loaded into the device, but what came out was much more art than functional staples. The tiny metal pieces were twisted, mangled and broken in every possible way, except for the standard way meant to hold sheets of paper together. I tried multiple brands of staples but alas, nothing could reign in the creative spirit of this stapler and ultimately, the task of binding 4(!!) sheets of paper together proved too great and the thin metal components inside ultimately bent and bound up. A true revelation! A test of will and imagination!
