I love this phone, I bought it because I wanted reminisce when I used to talk to my grandma on a phone like this one, when I was little. The sound and the rings are pretty loud. There is some hearing back of one's own voice but one can lower the volume on the earpiece and that problem goes away. Its a great throwback to a simpler time.

A sturdy, high quality, traditionally-styled telephone. The sound is excellent. The weight and feel are awesome. It features a variable control on the handset that really boosts the volume. It also features a real double-bell ringer (with volume control on the bottom of the phone) that really gets our attention! If ordering any Cortelco phone, make sure the model number ends in "M" and not "MD". The "MDs" are all foreign and more cheaply made. This is definitely a wise buy. God bless!

This was a gift for my mom (90 years old) who loves the old phones and who needed a phone with some heft, so when she put the receiver back on it it sat and did not slide off. This fit the bill, and is handsome to boot and very well made and sturdy. The only reason it is not 5 stars is a very low ring. The in-call sound is fine but the ring is quite soft. We solved this by buying an inexpensive gadget to raise the sound. The phone now sits on her table serving its purpose and looking good.
