Great for beach and park
I'm not sure if the intended use was heavyweight tarp and if you are looking for one of those, there are plenty available. This item is much nicer than a stiff tarp with metal ringed holes around edges. It is a beautiful shade of green, and a very nice looking fabric with just a little bit of a sheen in the sun. It opens out well, is not stiff, is easy to pick up and shake off anything such as sand or grass etc. I bought one for myself, and gave it to my college-aged daughter who takes it with her everywhere. So, I'm buying another. It is easy to carry - and fits into a bag about about the size of a standard hard-backed book. It's perfect for a picnic in the park too, and while it may be hard to fold as it was, you can certainly fold and fit it into the bag. I did. I used it at the beach and loved how clean and dry and lightweight it was. I don't need extra weight to carry. This picnic tarp or hiker's tarp is finer looking than a heavy duty plastic looking wrinkly tarp. The fabric appears heavy duty, with a finer, tighter weave, and a beautiful finish - as well as well finished seams on all sides. There are the usual metal bound holes - fewer if I recall correctly - but you do not see silver metal--it is much more subdued / maybe fabric bound I cannot recall, and way nicer looking than a regular ol' tarp.I would choose a heavier weight for under a tent and something less well finished than this if camping, and would keep this for hikes and beach. I'm sure I'll find other uses for this yet - the carpeted trunk of my car, but maybe it is too nice for that. So far, I've taken it to read books in a park, and to beaches.

Needed a nice cheap replacement, this worked extremely well.
The tarp arrived in good shape, with a convenient carrying bag/case. Didn't get much rain so cannot attest to the water resistance, but the tarp held up very well against the wind blowing. The grommet eyelets are attached well, we were able to stake the bottom edge down and tie the top up without any damage to the tarp.It held up well, and we will use it for our next trip as well!Edited 3/25/2021We have used this tarp for camping several times, and it currently protects our lawnmower outside from the elements. I can now attest to the waterproof design, as this tarp literally held over a gallon of water after our massive snowstorm melted, without dripping through on the mower. It held water so well the outdoor cats came by for a drink. This tarp has been abused by sun rain and snow, and it is still in great shape with no holes or other damage. This was one of the best multipurpose purchases we've made in quite a while!

Great find! Impressed!
REI didn’t have the footprint we needed for our tent when we needed it in a pinch so I bought this so we weren’t left with nothing! Was pleasantly surprised! A tad thin but did everything I would expect of the one from REI! Little different in the size we needed but it was nice to have a little spot to put things for the outside.Very durable and lightweight comes in a little tote that we just put in the bag with the tent so we don’t forget!!

Pretty Great, wish I had a few more!
Used this on a weekend trip with my buddy. We got to the campgrounds kinda late and it was dark by the time we arrived. Put this up in the dark on some pine cones and a stump!! Don't know how we didn't see that, but it was okay. Put my tent and this tarp on it and no tears at all or even scratches! The tarp is also really easy to fold and is lightweight and compact. I would highly recommend! Works great, wish I had 2 or three of these!

Best ground tarp for Philmont tents.
If you need a ground tarp to put under your tent at Philmont, this is the one to buy. It is the absolute perfect size in length and width to fit under the Philmont tents. The MSR Thunder Ridge is the tent Philmont issues to hikers. The floor dimensions match this tarp perfectly. The tarp is lightweight, reliably waterproof, and folds easily. The only trick is that you not be tempted to put the tent stakes into the tarp corner grommets. They line up perfectly with the tent poles, but don’t put them in. You need to fold the corners back under the tent and make sure that the rain fly extends past the edges of the tarp. Otherwise, rain will collect into the edges of the tarp and pool under the tent. Not what you want.If you need a ground tarp for Philmont, this is the one to buy.

Well made and it works!
I was surprised how well this tarp worked under our 3 person Coleman Tent. Our tent is 7x7 ft but I bought the largest tarp to be safe. We just folded one end under a few inches to help with rain. It did rain on our trip but our tent stayed nice and dry. The tarp is well made with durable stitching. It folded up nicely and fit into its carrying bag without and problem. Light and easy to throw in with our camping gear. Would do well if you used it as a shelter over your tent or campsite as well.
