Learn how to hold it.
There is a knack to getting the best out of this unit, and unlike other such devices I've used before I had to actually read the manual to get the best out of it. But once you establish a consistent way of holding it, and a consistent sweeping pattern, then you get perfectly accurate identification of metal and electrical current in a cavity wall.Like I say, it has two detection capabilities it alerts on: metal and current. I was trying to trace and verify the exact location of a mains cable to avoid drilling into it, and was bemused as it seemed to pick up a second cable a handspan to the right which had no current. This second cable turned out to be a satellite coaxial cable. So I'm very happy that I didn't drill into either cable.Great tool, but a bit more fiddly than the ones I used to use about ten years ago... But also more accurate once you get the hang of it. Expect lots of beeping while you trace your way to safety. Definitely staying in the top of the toolkit.

On balance, pretty good.
Certainly detected some wiring we know to be there, but other results were puzzling. I suspect it depends on your walls. I couldn't find a better rated one at time of purchase and the Bosch build quality is as expected.

Excellent bit of kit
Bought a cheaper no branded version but couldn’t make head nor tail of it so returned and bought this Bosch version which does exactly what it says it will. Easy to use and understand, highly recommended.

Useless, even detected cable in glass!
Absolutely useless, this will detect metal and cables in a spot then say it’s fine minutes later, we tried all sorts to get this to work properly, following the instructions carefully, recalibrated numerous times. The final straw was checking it on a pane of glass, which it decided had live cables and metal in it… returned for a refund, don’t waste your time

Works superbly for me and has boosted my confidence
Just moved and the pipework and cablings all over the place so was getting a bit stressed about fixing stuff to walls so I got this and it just seems to work so well in our house. I know a lot of people have had issues with it, maybe wall thickness or material composition of pipes has a roll but this thing is spot on for me. Even if you know a bit about building regs and have some common sense you can predict roughly where many cables and pipes will be but the peace of mind from this is great.

Vague readings, I dont trust it
I like the simplicty but the meter doest perform very well. Stud and or elecs/metal found where there is none. Instructions say to hold it in a particular way and with other hand on the wall. (Standing on one foot while wearing a funny hat too for all the difference it makes) Back face has plastic studs and will leave marks on the wall if you run it over the wall. My old beat up meter is still better than this one.

Excellent piece of kit.
The Bosch Truvo is an excellent piece of kit. Many years ago I used to tell a joke about Sir Isaac Newton inventing a machine a machine that allowed him to see through brick walls - he called it a window! In a sense, the Bosch Truvo does this for real, as it instantly and accurately identifies the position of water pipes, steel studs, building plates and electric cables that are powered or unpowered that are hidden in plaster and cavity walls. The Bosch Truvo enabled me to drill through external brick walls with the complete confidence that I would not drill through water pipes and electric cables. This enabled me to successfully install an outdoor double gang power socket. This was needed to enable our Christmas lights to run and avoid leaving a window open during December nights to let their power cables come into our home. This always resulted in a cold and insecure room, and a loss of heat energy on winter nights. We believe the Bosch Truvo will lower our heating costs significantly this winter to the extent that it will more than cover the cost of the Bosch Truvo unit.Incredible quality and wonderful value for money, I can unreservedly recommend the Bosch Truvo as a vital piece of kit when doing electrical work around the home.

It’s good, but not the best
I bought this because I was a bit worried about drilling blindly through walls especially as I know roughly where there may be pipes and electricity. The trouble with this is that it is too sensitive and it literally picks up everything including the smallest bits of metal and is therefore not very reliable to follow. If I were to trust this wholly, I would not be able to fix anything to the wall.
