Brilliant product - small and cheap isn't always nasty!
We;ve been buying Kefir for gut health but found it extremely expensive. So thought we'd have a go ourselves. I bought the cheapest offer on Amazon - if it all went wrong, there'd be no harm done. Well, it arrived and was a tiny sachet and I couldn't really see any grains to speak of. But followed the instructions. Three days later, we had our first little glasses of homemade kefir. Some weeks down the line, I appear to have a production line which, without care, will start taking over the kitchen. I now have two kilner preserving jars with a good tablespoon of large kefir grains in each. They do, indeed, look like small cauliflower florets. Each jar produces half a drinking glass of kefir every other day - today, one of them transformed the milk overnight. A glut approaches!! I have used both full fat and semi-skimmed milk and have, started now to use UHT. It all works well. I'm now using 350ml of milk each time. The taste is quite sharp - very much like the yoghurt we used to buy years ago. I add some honey to soften the taste, but I guess you could used anything you wanted. I found kilner preserving jars cheap and they do the job wonderfully. Some people think you should not use metal so I have avoided that - instead buying a small plastic sieve and using a wooded spoon. I also cover my jars with butter muslin but don't screw lids on. The instructions advised not to wash the jars too frequently - so every few days seems to work fine. I don't use washing up liquid. We haven't had food poisoning so clearly we're doing something right. As to our guts - well the jury is out, but we think they are working well and there's a lot of information out there about fermented food being great for guts. So my cheap little sachet has worked fantastically - I will have more kefir grains that I know what to do with and we're not buying commercial stuff. Bit of a win I think.

Easy to make everyday
I use soya milk to make the kefir, it's thick and tastes delicious. The instructions are so easy to follow. Since Jan 16th, I have had kefir every day. The grains are great value for money and feel healthy.
