08/14/24 update: increase to 3 stars, will review again in a few months when able to confirm my first unit was a lemon and it’s not a design flaw or manufacturing issue. It’s a critical part of the grinder action that should not fail so easily on a unit that is otherwise built like a tank. Especially at this price point.If your unit does develop a fault it’s much quicker to go direct to the website and raise the issue. It took over 2 weeks for a response on Amazons merchant messaging system. Going direct took half the time and I received my Amazon response the same day the replacement arrived.original review:At first a joy to use and whilst the build quality is generally speaking very high, my grinder just didn’t last, which at this price point is very disappointing. After 7 months and perhaps 20 uses (most of those coming on the vacation I recently returned from), the grinder failed in fundamental way I’ve never had a grinder do before in many years of owning manual grinders. The outer grinding wheel which should be very firmly fixed to the cylinder wall began to turn freely in its housing rendering the grinder completely useless. I messaged the vendor directly a few days ago and am awaiting a response which I will update here.This was not heavy use by any means, and the setting was for a relatively medium grind about 15 clicks from 0 to use in an aeropress.

Not sure if this is an Amazon problem or a VSSL problem. Unfortunately the box it shipped in was not well padded and the grind handle was loose. The handle has a threaded section that can be used to lock it in place and the screw threads were scraping the cover during shipping. It's a real shame given how much I paid to have my new grinder show up with cosmetic damage out of the box.Besides the not so great unboxing experience, the grinder does its job well. I'm otherwise happy with it.
