VasqueMen's Here Low Versatile Shoe

Unmatched Ventilation
Unmatched ventilation! The unique heel shape was surprisingly comfortable, especially since I’m a heel striker. It didn’t feel odd driving at all—I really like it.The only thing I don’t love is the tongue is extremely long and hits my chins when walking. It also makes putting on the shoes a bit tricky. The mesh is very fine, but Vasque makes excellent products so I expect it to hold up fine. Great for hiking—just be aware your socks will get extra dirty because the mesh lets in fine dust. Here in hot Arizona I really appreciate the ventilation

Light and extremely comfortable
I'd never heard of Vasque shoes/sneakers before, but I understand they have a solid reputation. If this lightweight, Re-Connect model is any reflection, the company makes an excellent product. They're a little different in construction and fit.The mid sole and forefoot (see image) are quite hearty and felt very springy on my first test drive. There's good, maybe great arch support. Again, I won't know how their comfort level holds up until I take a long city trek in them, but my first impression is that they're terrific for my feet. (I have high arches)There's a collar just above the heel, inside the shoe, almost like a bumper. Looking at it you'd think it might be uncomfortable, but it's not. My foot fit very easily in the entire body of the shoe, with plenty of room for my toes to stretch out.The tongue is also a little different. It's larger than a lot of similar shoes and spreads out a little higher on your foot. But it's soft and comfortable. The upper is a thin, almost see through mesh. It hugs your foot snugly and breathes. I think of these as great walking shoes best suited for three seasons; fall, spring, and early summer. I plan to travel with them. If I get a different impression after a few long walks, I'll chime in with more details. This is not an inexpensive shoe, but I give it a top rating for comfort and construction. In other words, worth the money!

Comparison of Vasque Here vrs Now models
I was interested in both the Vasque models - the "Here" & the "Now". The Vasque corporate-speak description is worthless - mentioning things like priorities, potential, perspective, etc, as shoe descriptors. So I ordered one pair of each to try. Both models share the same bottom tread pattern and both offer good padding around the heel. Both models you should size up a half-size. The "Here" is better vented and good for warm weather walking. It felt narrower and has a ridiculously too-tall tongue (think Basset Hound). The "Now" does not have as good a color selection as the "Here". The "Here's" lime green ring around the shoe is a bit obnoxious, black would have been better. I felt the "Now" was a tad wider and has better stability for running; I would not use the "Here" for running. Both shoes are decent, but I opted for the more supportive "Now" and returned the "Here".

Good traction
I've worn these shoes while walking and hiking and find them comfortable to wear for miles at a time. I gave the shoe a rating 4/5 star because I still prefer my Hoka Speedgoat and Altra LonePeak in comparison. Although I personally still provide my other hiking shoes, these shoes are a good runner up!The mesh fabric allows for quick-dry and provides great ventilation. Due to the mesh fabric, these shoes are best worn during warmer weather. The shoe has a narrower fit so I am unable to wear thick socks in this shoe. If you have a wider foot, the shoe may not be comfortable for you.The tongue wrinkles easily when putting the shoe on. I have to be deliberate when putting on the shoes to prevent this.Color options are okay. I would have preferred a black, navy, or dark gray option. The extra heel padding scared me at first, but it is actually comfortable and didn't cause any blisters. The traction is awesome! I never felt myself slip on slicker rocky surfaces and they held grip on more muddy/loose dirt.Overall, these are a solid hiking shoe choice.

Perfect fit and super comfortable
I was an exclusively Vasque-wearing hiker for over a decade in the early 2000's, but switched over to La Sportiva and have been on those ever since. But I saw these shoes and decided to give them a try and I'm glad I did.The shoes fit perfectly - in the size that I wear, without any math to get to the right size (La Sportiva are two sizes too small for me.) The uppers are completely soft and ventilated, making the shoe very lightweight. I have run in them, but not done anything that would test lateral support. There are some pretty great details on this shoe. Many shoes are using materials bonded to the outside of the shoe to increase durability, and these shoes are no exception. I normally avoid this kind of detail because it's the first point of failure as materials peel off. Vasque has reinforced the points of failure with stitching so that these areas are strengthened. I really like that kind of attention to detail.I'm not a huge fan of the rear tread extending so far behind the heel, but for the most part, it seems to provide some great cushioning whilst walking and running. This is an amazing set of sneakers for either low-key trail running, or just kicking around town.
