Finest yard fertilizer spreader I,ve owned.
I bought this spreader 2 years ago. It is bolted together with stainless steel bolts which will not rust from the fertilizer. The frame has a good paint job on it also. It has a spread equalizer that works pretty well, but a little hard to know which way to go with it. I always wash it well when done with it just to make sure the frame doesn't rust. The only complaint I have is, the handle that turns on the flow of fertilizer doesn't stay put very well. I had to add some friction plates , made from bronze, on both sides of the handle with a couple springs to put pressure on the handle. See picture. It is a great spreader. Also it's American made with American bolts, not metric.

No Control
Update: Today the vaunted closed gear that keeps the spreader wheel turning simply stopped turning in the middle of a job. I've gotten three full seasons out of this thing, and now it is headed for the trash pile-- where it certainly belongs. Expensive and ultimately ineffective. What is the point of constructing a great tow behind spreader if you CAN"T CONTROL THE FLOW OF MATERIAL as you're driving around your property? The control flow handle slips and flops around, from fully open to closed, so you simply cannot control the flow of material AT ALL. You basically have to drive around TRYING to reach back and hold the control handle where you need it to control the flow/broadcast rate! That basically defeats the ENTIRE PURPOSE of a tow behind, which is to make an otherwise long, arduous walk across your 2 acre property more efficient. It does seem to be well constructed, but so what...

Very solid performer!
First off, I am pretty picky and thought about giving it 4 stars, but that would only be for one small flaw I noticed and that wouldn't be fair. I like the big wheels/tires, large capacity, metal parts where it counts and American pedigree. The directions could be better, as with most units and once the lever dislodged slightly over bumpy terrain (possibly needs adjusted or tightened....it was first use). It spread fertilizer and seed nice and evenly over my 2-acre lawn. It worked every bit as well as my neighbor's (less expensive) Brinly and has a greater capacity. I am hoping the heavier duty design will be worth the considerably higher price over the long run. I am very pleased with this spreader.

Release Lever Non-functional
The release lever used to adjust flow from the hopper moves and closes as you drive. You can cover half a pasture and never drop a single seed. If you are handy and can engineer a way to make this flaw operational, then you should be good. This device seems fine, otherwise.

best ever
This is the best spreader ever. I've two other spreaders, one from a big name lawn care company and one from a big box store. I was very unhappy with both. This spreader was easy to assemble and works great. I had one problem with the operation (my fault) and their customer service rep. helped me through it with no problem.I can't remember the last time I've dealt with someone so helpful and pleasant. I would recommend this company without hesitation.

Too high expectations
We bought this spreader without the pleasure of any reviews. Spyker would do well to inform the buyer that this spreader is for a standard riding lawn mower and not for use on a zero turn. The BIGGEST drawback to the spreader is the armature which closes the shoot that drops whatever one is spreading. I chose this one because it has bigger wheels than most and company has been in business for a long time. In addition, it is small but big enough to cover our pasture and be pulled with our medium-size o-turn riding mower; which I believe the design is more for a small utility type vehicle/tractor/riding mower vs truck or larger tractor. Because with the latter, even with an awesome lever working design - I don't see how lever could be used. Despite all this, there is no way a normal person, with normal length arms, can operate the shoot open/close lever without having to physically get off the zero turn. I would have taken this back if it weren't for Northern Tools ridiculus 15% restocking fee. My handy husband found a work-a-round for the fact it is for use for a standard riding lawn mower & not a zero turn or any other equipment that has a rear protrusion such as zero turns have. He took an old line cleat, that came off one of our sail boats, and attached it to the bucket and release lever. Now all I have to do is pull the line out of the cleat to open/close the shoot.
