What an ending. Amazing twists and turns of the story made it so worth the time. The characters and the setting is on point. Eagerly waiting for the next part to know how the evil one is killed 😀

Okay, I’m going to be honest. Somewhere in the middle of this book, I was questioning its potential. I liked it, but I wasn’t sold. And then by the end? Well, consider me seated. 👀 The story is actually paced really nicely. There’s enough happening to keep things moving without feeling like the plot is sprinting past you, and I really enjoyed how a seemingly simple premise slowly revealed more layers and complexities. It has that “wait… there’s more going on here” quality that sneaks up on you. And tell me why I kept seeing The Hunger Games everywhere? Meryn gave me such Katniss energy, while Saela had that Primrose-like vulnerability around her. Then there were moments that screamed Fourth Wing, and okay… I caught some early Throne of Glass vibes too. Mostly first-book vibes, but they were definitely there. 😂 Now, Killian. I hated this man. 💀 And maybe the fact that I already knew his identity because of a spoiler absolutely did not help. But even without that, he came across as slimy, manipulative, toxic, and deeply insecure. Sir, please unclench. As for Stark… I want to be obsessed with him. I really do. But that switch felt so sudden to me, even though technically it wasn’t. My brain just went, “Wait, when did we get here?” 😂 That said, “Who did this to you?” + one bed trope + bonus POV? Yeah. He can have his brownie points. 🫠 I’m hoping book two gives me enough time with him for that switch to actually click, because I can absolutely see the potential. Maybe by then I’ll be fully gone. Hopefully. Probably. God help me. And then there’s Anassa the wolf, who irritated me SO much. 😭 Which, to be fair, I think is exactly what the author wanted, especially because we’re experiencing everything through the FMC’s perspective. But I had the same issue here as I did with Stark: the change felt abrupt, so I’ll need time to adjust. Honestly, I like the twins more right now. 😂 But despite all my complaints, I really loved the story. There’s something surprisingly compelling about how much complexity is tucked inside what initially feels like a simple plot. And now? I’m officially invested. Can’t wait to see where the tide takes us. 🌊 At this point, I’m in. Book two, you have my attention. Now earn my obsession. 👀

Fanatsy and erotica. Dark romance.

The story in this definitely has potential but the entire book as a whole has few major setbacks. First of all, it is not at all enemy or lovers, atleast not this part. Majorly because there is no enemy or hate actually show and it was evident that it was only imagination, that is all not shown properly, I read a review where it said that after 50 percent of the book it got pace and that was completely true that story was written in fact pace after that. To begin with, I really really hope that the numerous s*x scenes written in such explicit detail between Merlyn and Killian holds some relevance in the upcoming story and is not just to make the book spicy, because if that’s not the case then sorry to say it felt like reading a p**n, because 5-6 scenes to that level were not at all required for the story line and to be honest were extremely off putting. Moving on, what completely lacks is that, it is clearly evident from the beginning that Stark is going to be the main love interest, yet he has been sidelined, which is so disappointing and it feels like even if that is rectified in the second book, it may seem unconnected, but if the author is able to achieve that then hats off but she needs to work on that. Another disappointing part was the first part of the book before beginning of the trials as it felt like a stretch, although it was only 10 percent of the book yet it felt like that so much of the same was not needed, I mean it was evident that her sister is going to be taken, then why such stretch. Story is definitely predictable at times and when the ultimate climax comes, it flows so casually that it’s not even shocking, like the mate entry or the crown or the changing of the sister, it’s not surprising, but the fact remains that the story has potential but could have been more intricately written rather that involving multiple s** scenes. What further disappointed was that the inclination towards Stark after getting to know about the mate bond, it felt like something should have been natural, rather than only feeling her direwolf’s emotions, because then it means that if they get together in the future, it won’t be because of their own feelings, despite the fact that direwolf is not made the main focus of the book. This brings to the disappointment towards her bond and her respect and trust on the bond, I mean we get that she didn’t want that bond, but her trust and respect should have been shown to improve rather than what has been shown, because of this the direwolf cannot be taken as a serious main character of the book. I thought that the bond and the relevance of the bond has been made extremely casual rather than serious. It felt like something more should have been added to the story and not only the motive of the story towards getting her sister back. It felt like a forced motive because even if she was posted at front, it couldn’t have been expected that her sister would be there, so it all looked so forced just to get the story there to make her enter the bonding trials. Friendship have been shouldn’t quiet well but again the entire time the character of Meryn did not interest me because of her behaviour pattern which was not changing. Like, when she realised her fault of putting the iron bars but she again did that when she was with Killian. When her direwolf was angry with her for putting iron bars and that her pack needed her, I thought that something serious had happened, but didn’t know that it won’t be too relevant. Whether I will read the second book or not I am not sure, may be will read the excerpt and move on.

Good fantasy romance

Wow, that was ..... jaw dropping 😍 His entire body is covered in tattoos that represent the number of people he deleted? Say no more! 😍🔥 "My protector" ❤ I don't know what was put in this but this book was so addicting! Also, I absolutely loved the idea of direwolves - bonding with them, gaining their magic through the bond. Everything in this was so good. I was thoroughly entertained. This does end in a cliffhanger but it's not so bad. I mean, to me as long as Meryn is with certain someone 😊 I am not that bothered about other things. Well, she also has her friends with her so that's better too.

OMG... any book worms out there... u gotta try "Dire Wolf" by Sable Sorensen... it is absolutely incredible. I got it at christmas and Ive almost finished. Its about the bond between rider and direwolves. Full of bloody battles, trials, relationships and everything... I so cannot wait till the second book comes out. The twists in this book are HUGE and keeps you guessing all the way. 570 pages of absolute page turning gold!!!

Un de mes coups de coeur de ce début d'année. Oui, beaucoup d'éléments d'intrigue sont attendus parce qu'on les voit arriver de loin mais le personnage principal est chouette, le côté dire wolf aussi et on veut absolument savoir la suite!

Der jungen und tapferen Meryn Cooper hat sich das Leben bis anhin nicht von seiner schönen Seite gezeigt - sie lebt mit ihrer massiv jüngeren Schwester Saela und ihrer psychisch kranken Mutter in einem Armutsviertel des Reiches Nocturna und hält sich und ihre Familienmitglieder mit den Gewinnen aus Ringkämpfen knapp nur sehr knapp über Wasser. Hass ist ihr trotz allen widrigen Umständen fremd, nur wenn es um die "Gebundenen" geht kennt sie nichts. Die leben in Reichtum (isoliert) und aufgrund ihres Bandes mit den Schattenwölfen wird denen auch noch eine ungeheure Macht zu Teil. Als sie Zeugin einer Hinrichtung durch den gefürchteten Stark Tharion wird, der zusammen mit seinem blutrünstigen Wolf einen Verbrecher vor ihren Augen in aller Öffentlichkeit erbarmungslos tötet, wird ihre Abneigung nur noch mehr zementiert. Doch dann wird Meryns Schwester von Blutsaugern aus dem verfeindeten Reich gekidnappt und ihr bleibt nichts anderes übrig, als sich der Armee anzuschliessen, um irgendwie an die Grenze versetzt zu werden. Ihr Plan scheint durchdacht, aber während eines brutalen Auswahlverfahrens gerät sie plötzlich ins Visier der mächtigen Schattenwölfin Anassa - und zu ihrem Entsetzen wird sie von ihr gewählt und (unwiderruflich) gebunden. Damit rücken Meryns kühne Rettungspläne erstmals in den Hintergrund und für sie beginnt eine knallharte Ausbildung und ein Kampf ums Überleben. Die Leser werden in die durchtriebene Welt Nocturnas geworfen - das Worldbuilding ist nicht sonderlich komplex, aber trotzdem genügend ausgearbeitet. Da in dieser Geschichte die Handlung stark vorangetrieben wird, ist dies nicht weiter störend. Die Umgebung, Räume etc. wirken dank des wunderbar flüssigen Schreibstils der Autorin lebendig und man kann sich alles sehr gut vorstellen. Auch der Spannungsbogen flacht nie ab - wirklich nie und trotzem hat die Story keine gehetzte Wirkung. Ja, Sable Sorensen versteht die Schreibkunst. Das Setting ist düster, geheimnisvoll und deckt sich mit der Brutalität der Geschichte - hier kommt natürlich auch der Trope deadly trials voll zum Tragen. Grundsätzlich werden wir hier nicht Zeuginnen von neuartigen Elementen, die Autorin hat eine Story mit den beliebten Tropes Slow Burn, Fated (Soul)Mates, Touch Her And Die (kicking feet...) und wie schon erwähnt den Trials erschaffen. Aber im Gegensatz zum marktüblichen Einheitsbrei ist es Sable Sorensen gelungen, das Wolfsthema raffiniert in die packende Story einfliessen zu lassen. Sie serviert uns tierische Gefährten in Form von Wölfen, die nach bestimmten Regeln und Strukturen leben. Und dieses Element bestimmt die Handlung im Buch massgeblich. Wer Angst hat, dieses System nicht zu begreifen, muss nichts befürchten, denn es gibt einen Glossar und auch eine Art Erklärung zu diesen verschiedenen "Rudeln". Eine zentrale Rolle nimmt hier logischerweise unsere sympathische, willensstarke, wagemutige, clevere Protagonistin ein. Sie ist auf ihre eigene Weise einzigartig und zeichnet sich nicht nur durch ihren Mut aus, sondern vielmehr durch ihr Mitgefühl. Ihre Rolle wird einer steten Entwicklung unterzogen, die natürlich auch mit dem Band zur Wölfin Anassa zu tun hat. Und da wären wir beim zweiten super wichtigen Charakter - der Schattenwölfin und der Alpha des einen Rudels. Anassa hat wie unsere gute Meryn ebenfalls ein ziemlich stures Köpfchen und das wiederrum führt zwischen den beiden doch zu einigen Beziehungsproblemen. Der Leserschaft werden hier doch einige super witzige Situationen aufs Auge gedrückt. Ich bin regelmässig einfach nur dagesessen und habe vor mich hin gegrinst (sehr zum Amüsement der Tischnachbarn). Ganz viel Liebe an dieser Stelle für Anassa... Zur Lovestory werde ich mich aus einem bestimmten Grund nicht äussern - es wäre ein zu grosser Spoiler. Nur soviel: es ist Slow Burn und es gibt eine Überraschung, die ich soooo nicht habe kommen sehen. Ja, der Überraschungseffekt war entsprechend gross und hat der Geschichte gleich noch etwas mehr Raffinesse und ihr eine neue Wendung verliehen. Es gibt trotz "Slow Burn" eine ordentliche Portion Spice - da wirds richtig heiss. Andere Elemente und Storylines sind kontinuierlich in die Geschichte eingeflochten worden und mir war ab dem ersten Erscheinen einer bestimmten Figur klar, was hier Sache ist - der armen Protagonistin nicht und das zu beobachten war einfach sauwitzig. Sie hat es einfach nicht gerafft (wobei man ihr keinen Vorwurf machen kann - echt nicht). Nebst den beiden wirken jedoch noch andere Charaktere ziemlich aktiv mit und deren Ziele beeinflussen die Geschichte massgeblich. Da wäre unter anderem der brutale Alpha Stark Tharion, der Meryn das Leben schwer macht und sich daran ergötzt. Die Ärmste fürchtet sich permanent, von seinem bösartigen Wolf gefressen zu werden. Es gibt aber auch sekundäre Charaktere, von denen sie ganz viel Support erfährt und nach langem endlich erlernt, was Freundschaft bedeutet. Ich habe die Zwillinge sofort ins Herz geschlossen. Von mir gibt es 6 Sterne für DAS Romantasy-Highlight 2025 und eine fette Leseempfehlung. Ich bin nur so durch die Seiten geflogen und konnte das Buch nicht mehr aus der Hand legen. Eignen tut sich diese Serie sicherlich für alle diejenigen, die in einer Story Raffinesse (mein Lieblingswort...) suchen, den üblichen Tropes etwas abgewinnen können, nicht vor Brutalität in der Geschichte zurückschrecken und gerne ab und zu lachen.

I absolutely loved Dire Bond! The story kept me hooked from beginning to end, with engaging characters, plenty of action, and great chemistry between the main characters. The writing was easy to get into, and I couldn't wait to see what happened next. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys paranormal romance and fast-paced fantasy. Definitely worth reading!
