I’m dumbfounded! Why the bad reviews?
I don’t understand why others gave this book a bad review?! So what if the recipes are for campfire cooking! It’s easy enough to convert the recipe for use in your indoor oven. And if you don’t know how to do the conversions yourself you could always go online and find a conversion chart. Seriously! Do people just not cook anymore? And no! I am not experienced at cooking over a campfire. But I do really appreciate the authors love for bread and the art and science of making a good loaf. I have purchased books that tell you all about how to make a loaf of bread without kneading and only using flour salt water and yeast, and I quickly put them on a shelf because I found the bread to be pretty tasteless. But hey, if that kind of bread is your thing….more power to ya! But if you are a lover of a good tasting loaf of bread like myself and the author…I think you will like this book! Thumbs up to ya Mark! And I guess I am in the 2%

Didn't work for us
I liked the outline of the book. Lots of interesting info. I found several great ideas to help prepare for making bread on a camping trip. But we burned the sourdough bread following the authors instructions as to number of coals to use.

Lots of tips for baking bread in a Dutch oven
We do a lot of camping, and although we have an oven on our travel trailer, it doesn't do everything! I have 2 cast iron Dutch ovens (one with legs and a raised rim for coals and one without), a fry pan and a chicken pot - all for campfire cooking.I love to bake, and I do a lot of bread. This book is written for all kinds of baking, but there are recipes that work for campfire baking. There are recipes for novices as well as expert bread bakers. There are quick breads to breads that take more than one day.I won't be making all of these recipes, but there are some I am looking forward to using; and there are tips to help me make my favorite bread recipes over a campfire. There are lots of personal anecdotes in this book. Personally, I am always just looking for the recipes and tips, but the anecdotes are fun to read - once.

This Cookbook is Definitely NOT for indoor stoves!
I have a Dutch Oven FOR INDOOR STOVES only. This cookbook deals with OUTDOOR COOKING OVER COALS/FIRE. No where did I see that mentioned in the product description or I would definitely would not have bought it. I don't do outdoor cooking! I had hoped that somewhere in the cookbook that the author might have given some idea as to how to deal with gas, electric ovens but alas it was not to be. I'll keep the cookbook & maybe find someone I can give it to as a gift. It is certainly not going to do me any good. And I am sorry for that. It has some mighty fine recipes in it.

Great journey
Love the way the author expresses his ideas. He is spot on. His explanations and instructions are easy to follow. Outcome of the first try was good. Next dough already rising. I used a conventional oven to bake my bread, not over coals. He also goes more in depth, so you really gain a better understanding of the art of bread making. Highly recommend.

Great dutch oven book
This book is pretty good. So far I’ve made one recipe and it turned out great (cinnamon rolls were better than chain stores and store bought!). Everything else seems like something I could tackle and the directions are clear. The author stated one of his goals was to explain WHY certain steps are necessary because most cook books simply give the instructions without an explanation as to why it is important. He does this, but on occasion it seems like rambling.

... my Dutch Oven but this winter will be a great time for these recipes
I have not tried to make bread in any of my Dutch Oven but this winter will be a great time for these recipes . I have usedCast Iron for many years. Will never go back to using Teflon any time again. Straight Cast Iron only from now on. Sorry for those who have a glass top stove as you can not use Cast Iron .
