The Happy Intercessor

A joy and comfort to read, especially for us “feelers”!
I’ve appreciated and loved the culture of honor and passion for the Lord at Bethel Church (via worship nights, YouTube, etc), but I didn’t realize the gift of Beni Johnson until her passing. While watching her celebration of life service, I became so inspired by the impact that she’d made on her family and friends and I so wanted to learn from her.So immediately after watching the service, I ordered The Happy Intercessor and I truly could not put the book down. It was a joy to read!If you’re a “feeler” like Beni, and like me, and have felt like you don’t always fit in, and don’t quite know what to do with who you are and the way you intensely feel what you feel, then I highly recommend this book to you!Beni’s insight spoke to me lovingly and deeply. Her story and experiences seemed to validate and explain why we feelers feel the way we do! She explains that what we feel and experience with God and others has a deeper purpose, and that purpose is to pray.I’m so thankful to “connect” with Beni in this way and to learn from her years of seeking and finding the Lord.I felt as though the ending of her life here on earth was also the beginning of many seeds being sown - to bring about new life in women who love and experience the Lord like Beni. Like me. And perhaps, like you!

#1 book for a prayer person
This is a must read if you are a person of prayer or want to grow in prayer. Beni Johnson breaks down some wrong mindsets and approaches to prayer and builds up the reader in faith filled and hope filled understanding of our relationship to God as people do prayer. If you’re weighed down by prayer burdens, read this book and let Jesus give you His yoke.

well worth the read.
My copy of The Happy Intercessor showed up the day after the Newtown shooting tragedy. Previously, I had relied on The Ministry of Intercession by Andrew Murray. The back cover of The Happy Intercessor has the words "intercession with joy". That idea is what makes the book well worth the read. It was my lot to be giving the book a sober reading during a particularly sorrowful time. Mrs Johnson's way of worship could be said to be "liberal" compared to my "traditional" way of worship. However, I found nothing in the book that invalidated her points. While Andrew Murray exhorts readers to intercessory prayer from a sense of Christian duty, Beni Johnson encourages the reader to experience intercessory prayer as a joyful experience. And isn't it possible that a person experiencing prayer as a joyful experience might just pray more often? I underline in red as I read along. Thumbing through my copy now, it is obvious that I found more in the first half of the book than in the last half. However, I found ideas throughtout the book that were worth reading. I believe the last thing I underlined was the idea that when dealing with God and prayer, surrendering may be more effective than striving. There are good points throughout the book, and I am not going to list them all because that would ruin your own experience of reading it. However, I will admit that I enjoyed the chapter on an offensive lifestyle. If one has the gift of intercessory prayer, it just makes sense that you will get more out of it if you practice it more. The Happy Intercessor is designed to lead you to more joy in the intercessory prayer experience.

intercession from the third realm
the author pointed out how intercessors can live out of the 'first and second realms', or the first and second heavens--instead of the third heaven, where the throne of God is. put yourself in the shoes of a knight in a suit of armor standing before the throne of Christ to receive a strategic military briefing--a prayer warrior being directed by the Word where to go. intercessor called by God, be drawn into the heavenly realm. the Father 'seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus', so 'set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.'(Eph 2:6; Col 3:1 NIV)the first heaven--the earthly realm--can become a place of continual striving for an intercessor who walks around and handpicks troubles, then chooses to carry the weight of every problem around day after day until their energy and ambition gradually dwindles. but intercession is virtually weightless for the prayer warrior who shifts the heaviness of their prayer list onto Christ.religious people needlessly carry burdens in various ways. consider another example: if a child of God conceals bitterness in their heart, it becomes their own way of showing Jesus that they do not believe his justice is good enough. especially when they use the word of God to justify personalized righteous indignation. such bitterness operates from the first and second heavens instead of the third heaven where the throne of God is. there must be a paradigm shift in thinking to the kingdom of heaven. but i'm so glad God gave me the tools in this book in ...
I was suffering from depression due to the stresses of life and sleep deprivation. I finally decided to reach out to the Doctor. On the night of that phone call to have the Dr call me back the next day for a mental health assessment, I watched Jenn Johnson's youtube video titled "emotional healing".In that video she quoted Beni's book "Happy Intercessor".The title so enticed me that I pressed pause and downloaded the sample book via kindle.later that night I began to read the book, and the intro was literally my life. I had to buy this book.Following a read I laid on my bed and I had an honest discussion with Father about how I felt and I asked Him to help me.It was the first time I was able to so simply and honestly.Right then during the prayer I knew God was doing something in my heart, I just knew it.The next morning I woke and the depression was GONE. I was free and I knew I was totally free from the oppression. The Dr called me that afternoon as planned and I told her thanks but i got healed after reading this book. This was in November 2017, i have been free from that spirit since that night.I don't know why I had to get to this low point to receive my deliverance, but i'm so glad God gave me the tools in this book in addition to delivering me literally hours before the GP called me.I'm so thankful to God for using this book to set a lot of truths concerning intercession.I didn't the thought of an upcoming prayer meeting, but now, i am free to communicate my prayer in full freedom and the false lie of the weightiness of prayer (in negative terms) has been done away with by His Spirit from the truths I read iin this book.'Happy Intercessor' has revolutionised my prayer life and has removed the false concept of being indebted to carrying the weight of the world on you.God bless you abundantly Beni.

OK but not great
I'm not sure what I was expecting from Mrs Bill Johnson but what I was hoping for wasn't in this book. Whilst the book itself was ok and well written, it wasn't really a biography or a book providing guidance on intercession. Some of it seemed to be "fluff" for want of a better word. There were areas where Beni shared about an experience then would just end it with an odd sentence which didn't really say what her take-aways were, views on how others might get closer to God. I felt a bit confused by it to be honest.I wouldn't say I disliked it because I enjoyed reading about some of her experiences but I just found a lack of conclusions to it and that was frustrating hence why 3 stars.

The Intercessor's Guide book
I enjoyed reading every page. The practical strategies and biblical references are PERFECTLY balanced. I will be investing in an actual copy of this book because it needs to be shared with another generation.

Prophetic Intercession in action
I've been recommending this for years. It's really practical about how prophetic intercession enables us to pray effectively and in a healthy way. I really enjoyed the accounts of Beni and her team following God's prophetic leads and having spectacular direct answers to prayer. She makes a good case for guarding against heaviness of heart as we intercede for the world and its problems. At just one point she says something somewhat critical of Christians with depression, which I thought would be unhelpful if that was me - whether this remains in recent editions of the book remains I don't know. (I'd look it up but I've lent it two people and neither have given it back, which has to be a good sign). It would be a shame if that small paragraph stopped anyone benefitting from the message of this book, which is important, and well expressed. We need to care for the world effectively in prayer, without being overwhelmed by its needs, and here's how.

Exciting, Engaging & Revolutionary!!!
I was so looking forward to Beni's book on intercession - having heard her speak on the subject - and I was not disappointed one bit. This book is so different [in a good way] from any other book I've read on the subject. Her style of writing grabbed my attention. The candid way she shares her own experiences helped me understand my own experiences and the call of God on my life as an intercessor. For a long time I longed to connect with someone who would understand me spiritually and through this book I felt connected to her because of the way God uses her and has revealed Himself to her. My eyes were also opened in a number of ways regarding the different ways God uses people in intercession.More than anything else, what this book did was spark a hunger in me for more of God, for intimacy with our Father. I can't wait to read it all over again!!!
