Not So Big Solutions for Your Home

This book works whether you are building a small home or a huge home. Sarah discusses the touches that make a house a home. She has thoughtfully incorporated suggestions on ceiling heights, window treatments and how to define a space in our more open and casual house plans. Some of her suggestions incorporate Frank Lloyd Wright touches.This is a wonderful book. Buy it you won't be disappointed. I went on to buy a few of her other books and am happy to have them. Wish I had bought them last year but am still designing my home.

Sarah Susanka is the most practical architect/author whom I have ever read. Her work--this one included--has great actionable ideas on each and every page. I did not know that she authored a magazine column until I bought this volume that contains reprints of some of her submissions. Wish she'd write for one of the better shelter magazines so I could enjoy ideas such as in this book each and every month.

If you want to learn where Sarah began capturing the essence of her wisdom on better home design, this book is it. In it, you will find the articles that developed the themes that grew into her books and now into common culture, as we have crafted a new language to speak about home design. I am grateful to Sarah for elevating home craft beyond how much square footage you can build and what the trendy new fixtures and finishes are. Keep writing, Sarah, and I will keep tabbing the pages when your words resonate with my sensibilities.

I have found all of Sarah Susanka's books to be inspiring and filled with many excellent ideas that we are incorporating into the remodeling of our next and smaller house. The whole concept of the NOT SO BIG HOUSE works well for us A combination of beauty, balance, function and an economical use of space are hallmarks of her work. NOT SO BIG SOLUTIONS FOR YOUR HOME helped us with several innovative ideas for individual spaces in the house. I would highly recommend any of her books.

I have 2 or 3 other architectural books by this person. However, this new purchase is full of technical info...and no photographs...call me simple: I like photographs.

This is the ideal continuation to Sarah Susankas earlier books. Well written and full of ideas for many different lifestyles. Although repeating some of the earlier real life projects, she has developed the themes and showed us how to live better not bigger. If I have any criticism at all, it is that she has based most of her ideas around her cold climate environment and there is very little written about the warmer climates. The theories however are sound and using our own imagination, can be extrapolated to any environment.

Good source for ideas when thinking of designing new house or amending the one you have. Good use of space.

Sarah Susanka does a wonderful job with her design work and her premise is very solid. I have been in many wrong-sized homes and her approach is so much more workable.
