great space saver
the one and only reason I am giving this 4 stars and not five is that I would prefer to order the size bag I need in the color I want. I didn't think the bag would hold as many pounds as it stated, but it did. I would love to see a bag that holds 10 pounds of potatoes though. This bag is holding my onions and I purchased other sizes for my yams, potatoes and garlic. I decided not to hang the bags, I have them in my cabinet and I opted for the bags versus bins because I didn't want to have to clean up onion skins, etc, from the bottom of the cabinet. The bags are sturdy and I hope they are as good at preserving the produce as other reviews have stated.** update 1-4-13 ** I had stored potatoes in the new sacks and about a week later had purchased more potatoes to use for the holidays which I left in the "green" bag from the supermarket. I had them stored in my cabinet and after 2 weeks, the potatoes stored in my new sacks were still fresh, no "eyes" and the ones in the "green" bag from the supermarket were going soft, had "eyes" and ended up in the trash. I purchased several more sets to give as Christmas presents and bought another set for myself. Still hoping they decide to make a bigger sack and offer other color options. I took a sharpie marker and wrote "YAMS" on one bag and "POTATOES" on another of the Orange colored sacks.

Garlic storage... clean and easy.
I purchased this bag after finding and using similar storage bags for potatoes and onions. This bag is from a different manufacturer than the others I chose, but the idea seems to be the same. Up until now, I have been storing bulb garlic in a ceramic bowl with a lid. It worked fine except there was no real way to retrieve the garlic without turning the pot upside down. Also it seemed to attract dirt and was difficult to clean. There was just no way to get your hands down into the pot or bowl. The bowl I have has holes for ventilation near the bottom and it seems to work okay... But it is SMALL and difficult to use. Hence my search for something better and how I arrived here...This bag seems to be a solution for my problem. I don't use it for shallots so I can't comment on that purpose. For garlic however, it seems to be a good solution. It is large enough to hold multiple heads of garlic without jamming them in tightly. There is plenty of room for air and the garlic stays nice and dry. It is also a "blackout" style of bag so it keeps light from penetrating the bag (for the most part..). The bag has a clean look and seems right at home in a country kitchen. Personally, I find the look to be quite homey and totally acceptable out in the open on a shelf or hanging from a hook on a pot rack or a basket. Will it retard spoilage.?? Hmm... I don't know. I use my garlic and don't let it sit around too long. I have had garlic sprout previously, but not in this bag. One of the best features though is the openings on both ends. This makes it possible to place new, fresh bulbs in the top and use the older ones from the bottom. And of course if something were to spoil inside the bag, you can throw it in the wash. I don't believe in washing things like this unless there is a need though. Excessive washing will probably wear these out much the same it does to your clothing...Five stars. It just works.

Cute, but hardly useful
This bag was cute and well-constructed. I liked the feature of a hanging tab at the top and draw string openings. It has a neat little embroidered potato on the front. However, I was disappointed by both its size and performance. I was hard-pressed to fit even a few pounds of potatoes inside. I was hoping for a bag that could hold maybe five or ten pounds of potatoes - you know, enough that I'd actually have to worry about them spoiling. Not only that, but I couldn't tell that this bag did anything to extend the life of my potatoes. I hung them in a cool, dry place, just as instructed. If anything, they seemed to go soft sooner than I would have expected. Overall, this bag is aesthetically fine, but functionally unimpressive. I've moved my potatoes back to their pantry bin.

Works Great
I needed something that would keep garlic fresh longer so I could buy more than 1 head at a time, because everything I put in my pantry rots in less than a week these days. I bought a bag for garlic, one for potatoes and one for the onions. It’s working great. They last several weeks now, and I’m finally able to use everything before it goes bad. I don’t know why they make such a difference, but they do.

Cute and practical! Best use for compact kitchens.
I can't say this is the most convenient way to store onions or potatoes. The onion sack collects onion peels that could fall out onto the floor or counter any time you open the sack. Its compact shape requires you to empty out the entire sack if you would like to check on the condition of the vegetables in it.However, for a small kitchen with little storage space, this is great! We hung it on nails on a corner of our kitchen that would've otherwise had no use. It looks very cute and fits in our modern kitchen. We've gotten compliments about it.As expected, by having onions/potatoes the dark but ventilated extends the life of the veggies. We have kept potatoes and sweet potatoes for weeks and onions for even longer. It holds about 6 medium onions and 6 large potatoes/sweet potatoes.I'm happy with the product.

Using for onions
Because our family uses a lot of onions, we decided to get the potato sack for onions. So far we're very pleased. This sack will hold about 5 pounds of onions, and it is keeping the onions better than our old storage (canister in the cupboard). The sack stretches slightly, so it conforms to the onion (or potato) shape, holding it gently, not forcing it against the other onions. I agree with the person who said the pressure clips (like on the bottom of a jacket) are a bit on the flimsy side, but not sure if anything sturdier would ever be required. We like this well enough that we'll purchase another one for potatoes, if we ever decide we need one.

Disappointed this didn't work
I love my kitchen gadgets and anything that helps me be less wasteful. I have given this keep sack a chance for almost a year and I'm afraid it just doesn't do what it says it will do. Last month I finally did a test with potatoes in the sack versus potatoes in the plastic bag they came in. The plastic bag revealed more firm potatoes than those kept for the same amount of time in the sack. I don't know what accounts for this, but the evidence doesn't lie. I'm disappointed. I guess it's not a total waste because it has a little hook on it that I can hang on the side of my kitchen rack quite nicely so it at least is an efficient use of space.
