Works ok on smoker

It works really well, but the instructions and directions are unclear and very confusing.It takes a lot of use and experimentation to finally get it right for the Akorn Jr. Here is my instructions that can possibly help in your journey:-Before lighting a fire, make sure the bottom vent is at 1-Put your coals and wood into smoker and light up the smoker using a fire starter or torch or chimney-Once coals are lit and hot, close the lid and put the top vent to 2.-Because the top is at 2 and bottom vent is at 1, the heat will rise slowly.-When the ambient temperature is 50° away from your target temperature, close the bottom vent to .5 (on the screw before 1), depending if you put a lot of coals. If you didn’t put that much, you can keep it at 1 since akorn kamados are energy efficient-Then open the top vent completely(at 5) and install the tip top temp when the ambient temperature is near your desired temperature, usually like ~20-25° from your target.-When installing the tip top temp, fully insert the TTT. Don’t worry if the flap won’t go 90°, leave it at 1/3 closed when it’s installed because it can’t go any further out. No need to adjust the TTT.-After all that, wait until the temperature stabilizes, around 30mins. It should go up around 25-50° but then it’ll settle and go back around the temp you installed it to.*make sure to always clean the TTT with soap, hot water, and a sponge or toothbrush so it doesn’t stick. I also like to use wd40 for the hinges so it won’t get stuck.I hope that helps ✌️

works wonderful on the weber and Akron jr. the Akron jr found it hada lot of air leaks . after fixing extra gaskets on the lid and bottom air inlet what was happening was it was letting to much air in and couldn't regulate at first but after the fixes works great also added gasket to kettle grill. the company is fast to respond to questions.

It takes some dialing in to get the temp you want. Let everything come up to temp before you start adjusting the knob and it works much better. I use it on an offset smoker and it will control the temp using only wood splits within 10 degrees as long as you keep the wood coming. I run 175 to 225 for 12+ hours at a time in all weather conditions. Excellent product!

The adjustment knob is not fixed to the shaft. Marking temp settings is futile until the knob does not spin on the shaft. The bi-metal coil is not protected from the wind. Slight breezes change the opening of the vent. I should have sent it back. I tried it 5 times and it just does not work good.
