Barely qualifies for making ice cubes
I also thought these looked aesthetically pleasing and functional. I bought these for my wife and we both were excited when they came in the mail. Shortly after freezing some water we became disappointed, I guess it wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't bought 2 of them. You have to fill them with a certain amount of water, which is an exact science and when you mess up you have problems when you need ice the most. Either you have too much water and the ice is too big and does not come out or too little and the ice does release from legs. Either way it is way more work than necessary for ice cubes. Until they fix these I cannot recommend them to other people or give it more than 2 stars. At this point I am going to try and return them if possible.

I really love this ice cube tray
I really love this ice cube tray. Just be sure not to overfill, otherwise the ice cubes will not come out when you try to dislodge them.

Works well but definitely loud and takes a good hard smack on the counter to get the ice
Works well but definitely loud and takes a good hard smack on the counter to get the ice, so not always practical.

Seems awesome but isn't.
I was really excited about this thing. It doesn't make that much ice and it makes a lot of noise to wack it on the counter. The old fashion ones are a lot better especially considering the price.

It is too easy to overfill which causes ice to be too large ...
Just okay. It is too easy to overfill which causes ice to be too large to come out through the mouth of the tray. The ice cubes made are rather small which means they melt super fast compared to standard ice cubes. Love the concept and design of this but I think it needs a bit more refining before it would be a great product that I would recommend to others.

I'd call it ice for morons, but it only makes enough for one.
The cubes are very small, the tray can't be stacked, and it uses a lot of space.Ignore the Wired article, this ice cube tray sucks at making ice cubes, and as a conversation-starter, it makes you look like an idiot.Guest: "Hey that ice-cube tray looks snazzy."You: "I read about it in Wired."G:"Jeez, you scared me by whacking it against the table so hard."Y:"Wait for it..."G:"That's enough ice to take my drink from lukewarm to tepid!"Y:"It retails for $20, but I bought an Amazon return for $12."G:"Didn't you read all the 1-star reviews first, like you usually do?"Y:"Wired! Magazine!"G:"You are some special kind of moron."

Seemed great....
Seems like a nice idea, but really it's more trouble than it's worth just to get ice. Once the ice cubes have frozen, you really have to smash the bottom end of this ice tray just to dislodge them. Even then there's no guarantee that all of them will dislodge. I've had to slam this thing on the floor and I still had ice cubes stuck in the "feet" of the tray. Is this a novelty item? Sure. Is it this practical item? HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NO!
